It’s politics. The LSU President, king Alexander, was positioning himself to be a part of Clinton’s staff. So he was playing the political game to do that.

We hate the people running the university, specifically that jackass, F(UC)King Alexander, especially with the fake, boy-cries-wolf empty threat that LSU would close. We hate that they always have their hands out and bitching and complaining how they don't have enough money as they continuously overspend their budget year after year after year after year.
On the other hand, LSU athletics has been donating money to academic side for almost 30 years. It's a money-making enterprise, and not many athletic departments in the country can say that. Furthermore, if you have a successful athletic department, especially in football, it can spike your enrollment. Alabama is proof of that.
And while big-wigs (and LSU doesn't have the booster power other schools have) donate to TAF, the average person HAS TO DONATE because it's a surcharge on a lot of season tickets.

Sports money is a thing
Academic money is a thing
They are not the same thing
They are separate things
One is pretty damn broke
The other is very wealthy and donates to the other annually (that means every year)
