Athens combines the best of both categories, which is why it's #1. Meaning, it's got a distinct college town feel (like 5 downtown Auburns or Oxfords put together), but the larger size and offerings of Tuscaloosa and Baton Rouge and Knoxville.

I mean UK kids infest that place like crazy six weeks out of the year. It's a big part of going to school there. That said, I'm not sure we're ranking the same things if you're discounting fun things that aren't directly tied to the university.

You're pretty dumb. But I had fun in Lexington once. To rank Lexington higher, you'd really need to include surrounding scenery and advantages (Keeneland), which have nothing to do with the college town aspect of the city.

Tell me then, what makes Auburn better? It is no different than Starkville.

It's basically Starkville with a nicer college campus in it.

I understand what you're saying but it's just hard to set parameters when you're including offerings of medium-large cities against the quaintness and pace of Oxford, Mississippi.

I'd want to do both but in completely different ways.

I disagree with Knoxville being #4. I had a good time last year at the game, but didn't like the bar situation. Everything was a little too spread out. Agree with Nashville, but I think CoMo should be a little higher.

Can't argue with this. Knoxville is great and a lot of fun if you know what to do and where to go. The tailgating is top notch if you are on the river or in other prime spots on campus, but those are hard to come by.
But it can be very inconvenient for away fans and others who want to bar hop without having to walk almost 2 miles to the stadium, which is a hike on our campus.

Knoxville was easily top 3 when the strip wasn't a shite hole. Not anymore

Ain't got no time to read all these here pages, but how hard have the pigs been sailed by this ranking?

I don't see how Auburn is any more in the middle of nowhere than Tuscaloosa is. Tuscaloosa is surrounded by Fayette County to the north, places like Linden to the south, and rural Mississippi to the west. Those places are the textbook definition of the middle of nowhere

It's by far the most desirable city to live in in east Alabama and west Georgia? It's a much nicer campus with a much nicer town around it? It's more aesthetically pleasing, with more fun things to do, better city governance, and is pretty highly sought after as a destination for families in the region?

Read all the pages, Sport.

We have no reason to be sailed. Fayetteville speaks for itself.

I much prefer the landscape of our live oaks to the Boston & Ozark Mts.

Depends on where you're coming from. To me Tuscaloosa is practically a Birmingham suburb, but I'm from Atlanta. I know people from Alabama view them as clearly distinct, which skews how some may view it.

Yeah, there's basically no difference in Oxford and Starkville, or so I've been told.

Not a single Dawg has showed up in this thread

Of the ones I've been to.

quote:

2. Athens, GA

Should be #1. Had an absolute blast when I went last time LSU was there. The only negative I had was that some UGA fans were huge assholes, but I attribute that to being an opposing fan and didn't let it bother me.

quote:

3. Oxford, MS

Ehh I guess it's ok where it's at. I think it belongs top 5 no doubt and I've never been to Knoxville or Nashville to really move it anywhere other than here.

quote:

5. Baton Rouge, LA

If LSU had better college bars other than the dump tigerland we could easily be even higher I think. I'm also biased though.

quote:

7. Auburn, AL

Outside of Athens, my favorite opposing school I've been to. Been there 3 times now and had a blast each time. There may not be many bars, but sky bar is a bad arse bar and makes up for that. Plus the little party houses next to some of the fraternity houses were some fun parties.

quote:

10. College Station, TX

Outside of northgate there really isn't much that I liked about it.

quote:

13. Columbia, SC

Went to visit a childhood friend who went to school at USC. Really didn't know what to expect in Columbia, but when I got there I was kind of shocked at how much of a dump everything was. Plus the stadium not even being that close to campus is dumb. Nontheless I had a good time.

I pretty much gauge a college town on how drunk I got there and how much fun I had. The thing is I've gotten plastered and had a blast at all of them, so I'd make a terrible critic.

The location of USC's stadium is why Columbia, SC is the worst. It really hurts the "gameday" feel of waking up in the morning, and not being able to walk to the stadium.

I've visited USC friends throughout my time in college, and it was always such a damn process getting out there.

I'd say my favorite non-sec school to visit, is thier rival. Clemson has an awesome atmosphere

Athens not #1. That tells me these people are idiots. You don't get a better college downtown that Athens. Also fayetville should be higher
