Depends on if you count Tebow as leading the 2006 UF team even though Chris Leak was the usual starter that season.

Tebow threw 33 passes, Leak threw 365...so, I would say that Tebow was not the one who would get credit for winning the division.

And given that there's no difference in game experience between a redshirt freshman and a true freshman, Maty Mauk (RFr) for Mizzou in 2013.

But there is a difference between being in your first year in a system and in your second. Which is another hurdle UGA will face. Everyone on their talented offense will be learning a new system with new terminology and techniques.

Also, Arkansas in 2006 had QB turmoil all year between Mitch Mustain and Casey Dick but was propelled to Atlanta on the legs of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones

Mustain would be similar to Ainge at UT in 2004. Yes, he got a lot of starts and they won the division...but by the time the championship game came around, an older QB was under center.

Gus Malzahn, Ellis Johnson 2013

No one is expecting the Dawgs to do anything, UF has to go to UT and ARK which I see them losing both, and UGA has more talent than UF.

Eh, I don't know that I'd go that far. They're probably pretty similar

It's a shame you won't have a Roided out quarterback to orchestrate another miracle come back this year. Your players are pretty good with that dball injected straight into their arse.

Looking forward to the game this year.

OMGHERD look at him! Tebow was a runt compared to him! How could anyone even tackle this massive musclehead?

That would be exactly what I'm saying.

You won't be in Atlanta this year.

I will 100% guarantee that UGA will be in Atlanta this year playing in the dome. 100% guarantee. Will bet my entire life savings on it too.

In fact, I expect them to struggle some what. 8-9 wins

Most UGA fans have indeed predicted 9 wins this season (personally sticking to my 9 +/-1)... Note it wasn't a UGA poster who started the thread. Do I think it's *possible* for us to win the East? Sure... our schedule is pretty favorable. Do I think it's the most likely outcome in Yr 1 of the Kirby Smart era? Of course not. Personally, I'd rather see us start Eason for most if not the entire season, take some lumps at 8-9 wins and be better prepared at the QB position for year 2/3, but ultimately trust the coaches to make the right call as they have more complete info than any fan would.

More important than our end record to me is elimination the "oopsie" game that we seemed to have every year under Richt, where the team came in woefully underprepared. If we're competitive in every game, I really am not terribly concerned about the record this season... if we missed a bowl game that would be disconcerting, but 8 wins and no "non-competitive" or headscratcher losses would be acceptable.

If we lost say UNC, Ole Miss, and UT, with UT winning close in Athens, but win the rest of the schedule or take one additional loss (not named UF or GT), I'd be reasonably pleased with the outcome. Year 1 is about quality over quantity... if the team is developing and improving (particularly with some of the depth concerns we have at DL/OL as well as a tFR QB hopefully seeing significant playing time) and recruiting continues the direction it's going, that would feel like a slight step back to take a bigger leap forward.

Happy to take some of this action as well if there are a lot of UT takers.

Who is Brad Pittman?

Besides, it's funny that you think we don't like Chaney because of Pittman leaving. That actually has nothing to do with it.

With as much as your offense improved from 2013 to 2014, one wonders where the hate comes from.

Gus Malzahn 2013 - Malzahn was a HC at Arkansas St., so he had been a HC somewhere before.
Nick Marshall 2013 (not a true frosh, but a converted DB) - Marshall was a converted DB...but did play QB at JC before transferring to Auburn
Gus Malzahn, Ellis Johnson 2013 - That is actually one comparison that stands.
