Since Dooley?
Idiot.
Idiot.

That's the nature of CFB at big time programs these days. Not a lot of coaches last long enough to retire on their own terms anymore.

So has the last three University of Georgia coaches including one with a .740 winning percentage. And one where the guy whom the playing field is named after and who was serving as AD was over ruled by the president and let go.
Most any coach including Nick Saban will tell you Georgia is or should be the best and easiest head coaching job in America. A football mad state with the largest AA population in America and they are the source of the great athletes with zero major in state competition for those athletes. And the admin is throwing massive cash at recruiting (by far the most of any school in America).
So I guess with all that going for you they are a little embarrassed at the current success of the little country school just to their north and east (Clemson). Who happens to share a relative small pop state with an SEC school. But holding two natty's since the Dogs won one if I am counting correctly. And the state bordering to their west with two SEC schools and an even smaller pop. Both having won national titles since UGA. One at a torrid pace. As well as another bordering state (Tennessee) to their north who has won one since the Dogs. And the state to the south where all three major schools have had a national title (two of them multiple times I believe) since UGA won one. All that said this could be the year since they have the most talent of any school. Players stacked on players and play in the easier division. Win the SEC champ game and two playoffs and bingo!

There aren't many college football coaches that retire or quit. So not sure the point you are trying to make here.

Did Georgia not fire Richt after consecutive ten and nine win seasons?

That's what happens at schools that are NOT stepping stones.

quote:well, it is a performance oriented business with no set retirement age. The only real options for changing coaches are retirement (sometimes forced), taking another job opportunity (is your University a destination job? And, sometimes this is forced), health reasons (sometimes these health problems come and go based on the next job opportunity... Meyer). Finally, and absolutely most common, coaches are either fired or forced to resign. It is the nature of the job, not an amazing stat.
Auburn has a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong history of firing and paying off its coaches to leave.
Now, frequency of coaching turnover would be more interesting to look at as it speaks to the health, culture, and perceptions of the job and organization as a whole

Seriously, aren't just about 80%+ coaches fired or forced out at every major college?
I would so most all coaches suffer the same fate eventually
