Looks like some of those are getting credit for their pro careers. Jerry Rice and LT stand out in that regard. When someone says Jerry Rice, you think of his days with the 49ers. Same for LT. You don't think about his days with the Tarheels.
I sort of agree with you, especially with Rice playing in obscurity at Miss Valley State but any discussion of who is the greatest football player of all time is a discussion of Jerry Rice and Lawrence Taylor. There are fairly equal cases to be made for either but there's no one else that even makes the conversation.

Did you watch Larry Fitzgerald play in college? What he did in college was unreal. And at the time, the Big East was a pretty good conference.
Yes I did. Have family who played for Miami and saw him in person.
He had a great career but I dont think he was better than those 2.

Not a single player from the 2000s

The omission of Derrick Thomas is glaring.
Also, Remington at C and Barry Sanders at RB.

Yeah I lived in the area when he played at Pitt. Went to quite a few games. When you consider the numbers he put up that year were better than Jamarr Chase this year and he had Rod Rutherford throwing him the ball, it's pretty insane.

I’m confused. Didn’t you post yesterday that Tua was the greatest thing college football had ever seen?

Barry Sanders at RB.
How old are you? Sanders had spectacular highlights but if I've got 3rd and short in the 4th qtr of a playoff game there's a hundred guys I'd take over Sanders. He was never the guy who could put the team on his back.

A lot of those names are on that list because of what they did in the pros, not college.

Do I have to see 1,000 ads to find out?

2 Bama LBs on 2nd team. Thomas and Bennett.

Old enough to know your logic is flawed. What does my age have to do with this?
Sanders is the ALL-TIME single-season rushing leader who also returned punts and KOs. How much more of the team do you want him to carry? He's in the discussion.
BTW, I have birthday coming-up soon so there's that!

Pitt's all-time team is ridiculous when you consider the relative success of the program. Marino, Dorsett, Fitzgerald, Ditka, Fralic, Green, Donald
Sort of like LSU basketball

Sorry if I came across as condescending. I meant that the highlights are jawdropping but the Lions were an afterthought throughout Sanders career and it was largely because they couldn't run the ball in big games. If you only know him from YouTube you can easily miss how ineffective he was at crunch time. Sure Emmitt Smith ran behind a better line but very few people who watched that era would rank Sanders ahead of Smith. Hell, I'd take Roger Craig all day over Sanders. frick style points, get me those late first downs that win the game.

I mean, you can't really argue about an all-time list, as it's a collection of classics.
Really, the one most open for debate is Jerry Rice- he's from a lower tier, the FCS (it was 1AA at the time).
They have their own All American teams for that level.

Barry Sanders was the best I've ever seen. He had no offensive line at Detroit. Barry was the offense there. Emmitt Smith had the benefit of playing on teams stacked on offense. Emmitt Smith was great but switch their teams and Barry is probably the all time rushing leader and Emmitt Smith is far below that.

No worries. It's what we do - sit around debating list and greats and arguing and insulting.
This was supposed to be a CFB all-time AA list, not NFL. As others have noted it appears the list was influenced by NFL careers.
I only saw one RB (Brown) listed in the OP. I'm suggesting that Barry Sanders should be a 2nd RB on the list. Not for what he did in the NFL but at Okie State.
FTR, this is my 50th season of watching CFB. The only one I saw play in person was John Hannah. I suspect that many compiling the list are in the same boat and working off film clips and stats.
Happy New Year to you and yours!

Um, he ran for 2688 yards in 1988. What else would you like him to do? This is a college list, not pro.

How is Archie Griffin not the RB? He won the Heisman twice.
