And by "strong" you mean he left a handful of undersized receivers, 2 good running backs, and an offensive line that wouldn't dominate a high school game?

You do realize that we only have one new OLineman, and all the receivers getting playing time were on the roster last season. Add to that, that most of the defensive play makers were recruited by Richt.

All that said, Saban is putting together depth like we have never had before, and is bringing a fire to the program Georgia hasn't seen in quite awhile.

Richt did not recruit the Oline well at all. We were short on depth, but overall, Kirby had a much better foundation to work with than Saban did.

Not like Saban won a BCS title at another school previously or anything.

And before that he was the "fruit of the month". What's your point?

That was definitely the perception around these parts. Again, mostly from Alabama fans.

I agree. Georgia has always had the potential to be a monster because of the instate talent. For whatever reason, previous coaches haven't taken full advantage of that. Vince Dooley being the only real exception.

Other than the Herschel years, Vince Dooley did not take advantage either. He was 8-4 Vince.

Not "raging" at all. Just look at who's proclaiming him the next great thing in every one of these threads.
And I'll jog your memory about the Muschamp and McElwain hires if you need me to. It was exactly the same thing. If a coach comes from Bama, they have to be the next best thing. It's pretty sad, really.

Not me. I thought he was unproven, just like Kirby. bama fans fawn over saban assts. though.

You're comparing Smart losing to GTech to Saban losing to ULM to say that that Smart will go on to win National titles after like Saban did.

My point was that Saban had already proven he could build a team into a title contender before that loss. Kirby has yet to prove shite.

Expected a dawg would be able to figure the difference out. Guess there's not much but empty space 'tween your hedges.

Well, it's better than the Houston Nutt coaching tree.

Jesus Christ, you are full of shite. Very few people thought either of those would be a good hire. Muschamp, especially.

Will Muschamp went 11-2 in year two and was definitely thought to be a great hire at the time.

Additionally, there were 29 players selected in the 2017 NFL draft who played high school football in Georgia. None of those players finished their careers with the Dawgs

That's why Richt got fired

Except that Smart is on his way to two straight top 3 recruiting classes and already has another lined up for 2019. Looks like he may have some staying power.

Recruiting has never been Georgia’s problem. You have wasted more talent than any team in the SEC. Even Goff and Donnan were able to sign big time recruits. It is like the old Spurrier quote what happens to these players when they get to Georgia?

He was, but not when he was hired. He was pretty popular with the AU fans because of his tenure there, but it certainly wasn't Bama fans hyping him when he was hired.

Thank you! Good god I have never seen a fan base bitch and delude themselves into thinking recruiting was their issue more than UGA. I guess that comes with being ranked the only team to consistently have top 10 classes but not have a NC. I think SI did a stat review of programs over 10 years with top 10 classes. UGA was the only one not to have an NC. Embarassing.
