Some pretty interesting anecdotes
quote:
WHEN SABAN CONTRACTED COVID-19 during the 2020 national championship season, he had to quarantine at home. But that didn't mean he missed practice. He was there -- just not physically.
Saban had Alabama officials set up cameras so he could watch practice from home via Zoom.
"We know he's watching practice from home, and after practice, we bring it up [in the middle of the field] like we would if he was there. It was just routine," said Marshall coach Charles Huff, who was Alabama's running backs coach at the time.
As the team gathered, Saban's football chief operating officer, Ellis Ponder, rolled a 19-inch television set on a stand onto the field in the indoor practice facility. Saban addressed the team on video just as he would have if he had been there in the flesh.
"And at the end, he holds up his hand and goes, 'One, two, three,' and everybody yells, 'Team,'" Huff said. "It was like 'Saw,' the movie where the little TV rolls in, and boom, that doll pops up and gives you instructions."

I remember many AU fans bitching and complaining because Malzhan and Harskin exhibited zero emotion or aggression on the sidelines.
quote:ok? Doesn’t change my point that Saban would show his arse and freakout on the sidelines and in press conferences frequently.
I remember many AU fans bitching and complaining because Malzhan and Harskin exhibited zero emotion or aggression on the sidelines. Do you recall Gus' calm demeanor when he was ok with those mediocre W/L records and bowl losses? And before you respond, I'm fully aware that Auburn shite canned both to the tune of +$70MM. Who wants a coach standing on the sidelines staring into space and showing zero urgency or attention to the details of the game? Or a coach who makes excuses after a loss because he failed to actually coach or get involved in the game prep?
quote:That and why deal with the bullshite that college sports are becoming at that stage of this life?
He was also 72 years old. 7 to 10 years older than most people when they retire.
That probably had something to do with it.
quote:You are correct, I also remember the Gus BOOM.

I remember many AU fans bitching and complaining because Malzhan and Harskin exhibited zero emotion or aggression on the sidelines.
You are lying then because Malzahn showed his emotion with his booms and fist punches and everything else.
So why are you lying
quote:Coach Saban was a jackass of the first order, I've known that for 17 straight years.
ok? Doesn’t change my point that Saban would show his arse and freakout on the sidelines and in press conferences frequently.
quote:
I wonder what younger nick saban would say to that response.
quote:
Not surprised to read this, but it is depressing. It's easy to blame greedy players, but the reality is that this represents a failure by the NCAA. If we had logical rules governing transfers and NIL, we wouldn't be dealing with all the me-first, mercenary bullshite coming from the players.

'Maybe this doesn't work anymore, that the goals and aspirations are just different and that it's all about how much money can I make as a college player
quote:
how much are you going to pay me?" Saban recounted. "Our program here was always built on how much value can we create for your future and your personal development, academic success in graduating and developing an NFL career on the field.
quote:
The whole time Saban has been at Bama it has been about how much he paid players.
quote:
I don't remember Saban ever turning down any of those new contracts.

He also controlled a number of advantages very few college teams could access and now that door has been kicked wide open.
