Notre Dame hasn’t won a National Championship in over 30 years. Why are we even discussing them?

And they've been blown out of just about every meaningful football game they've played in over the time span. Notre Dame is a thing of the past.

They are the most consistent program in college football over the last half decade.

The last 5 years? You could add bama and Clemson to that if you are talking half a decade.

If you go back another few years they had a season with zero wins and went 6-7 the next.

Even a team like LSU has been a more consistent program over the last decade.

You almost make this too easy...
'
65 the AP poll went to Alabama
78 the UPI went to Alabama

We won the AP in 1978. UPI/coaches poll was the one that awarded the Crystal Football.

I think they started it in 1986. but, they allowed any team that had won the UPI poll in previous years to purchase a ball for those years.

Correct. They always awarded a trophy before then but it was wooden and looked kinda lame.

Look at the metrics before posting. Most of those lists have very silly items they use to calculate the rankings, and most do not pertain to academics.

Yes. And the AP has nothing to do with the crystal footballs

I was quoting Korin

He had it wrong.....

I have it right, AP in 65, UPI IN 78

EDIT TO ADD: I was wrong, Alabama won the AP in 65 and 78... the only year they only won the UPI and not the AP was 73

oops

He was talking to me. I had it wrong, I thought USC had won the AP and Alabama the UPI in 1978. I should take my own advise and research it a bit better before posting, instead of just relying on my memory.....

No one was trying to "keep up with Notre Dame". ND had a very good decade in the 40's due to being able to bring in ex-military players. Not playing in bowls helped them to be able to play relatively weak schedules and then win

Bingo.

Which is why you got jealous and got trigger happy with titles on your media guide.

Get a clue man.

Alabama doesn't have to finagle anything. ESPN used the information from the NCAA website LINK. They got the titles that the NCAA recognizes from their website and all the game stats for all-time wins, conference championships and other awards are on record.

Except that they did finagle. And no one else did or does.

I keep saying this, I everyone else did it he bama way, there would be about 300 claims to a title in just 150 years.

It’s a bad look but you can’t go back now. But still it’s a bad bad look.

There are 5 years listed in the records book they don't claim though.

Oh good lord, you really believe that don't you.

Even if that were true, people are saying it happened in the 1980's, and by then Alabama had won 6 more NC to Notre Dame's 3.......and in the 1970's Alabama had one of the most successful decades in college football history.

If Alabama got "jealous" it would have happened in the 1950's.

Is that the "clue" you wanted me to find?

When you consider the top to bottom talent that has played for Georgia from 1980 to the present it is truly amazing that they have only won one National Championship.
