Even with the scandal at Kentucky, he was a fantastic coach. I was glad to see him live long enough to see his HOF induction. I know Arky fans have fond memories of him as well.

The Sutton family released a statement to the Tulsa World: “Our beloved Dad and Papa Coach Eddie Sutton passed away peacefully of natural causes the evening of May 23rd at his home in South Tulsa. He was surrounded by his 3 sons and their families, which include his 9 adoring grandchildren. He is reunited with his No. 1 assistant — his bride Patsy Sutton — who passed away in January of 2013 after 54 years of marriage.

Rex Chapman???? @RexChapman · 9h Eddie Sutton was a fascinating and complicated person. He also was an unbelievable teacher of the game of basketball. I was fortunate and lucky to have learned from him. Grateful. Hall. Of. Famer. Thanks, Coach Ed. Rest.

I think he would have won an NC at Kentucky if he had never gotten caught in that scandal.

I hate to hear this. I used to love when he would bring his teams to Baton Rouge to play. The Kentucky games were always the best. I got to meet another former UK coach at a Kentucky/LSU game in Baton Rouge when Sutton was coaching. Joe B. Hall was one of the commentators for the JP Sports broadcast of the game. I got to speak with Coach Hall at the scoring table as he was cleaning it up after the game.
The SAT scandal was a tough pill for UK, but it worked out in the end. Sutton was a damned fine coach and I only "hated" him when we had to play UK. It's so sad to learn of his passing.

He was a great coach, but unfortunately was more interested in drinking.

God bless Coach Sutton's family
I met his oldest son's wife and those children - the son who played at Southern Idaho I think - and she was the sweetest lady you would ever meet

his last season the hogs were playing in little rock at barton coliseum saw eddie wheel his powder blue 380 sl into the parking lot of the "caberet" (a popular night spot at the time) almost jump the parking block and run his car into the side of the building.
the door flies open he stumbles out walks into the side of the building falls over on his a*s, hits his head, he stumbles to his feet and tells the building "excuse me!"
he was still in the bar drinking when we left at 11pm to go check out the action at bennigan's.
also his top assistant was selling cocaine to support his own habit.
he ran a tight ship!
he was dead to me when he said he'd crawl to kentucky.

“...All my life I have made some dumb comments, but that was the worst,” Sutton said in the interview with Erling. “When I made that comment it wasn’t about the fans because Arkansas fans are the best. There are none better than those people because they are very loyal and they had been certainly good to me. When I made that comment it was directed at Frank (Broyles), and it was misinterpreted by a lot of Arkansans. I have lived that down because every chance I’ve ever had I’ve tried to correct that because it was a very uncalled for...”

RIP to the coach that brought life to a dead basketball program.
If we all had agendas against the wrongs of a person for what they said in the past then no one would be worthy. Let him be for what he is.
Thank you for your time here coach. Arkansas fans will never forget.

do you know why he was upset at frank?
because he was upset because ken hatfield was being paid more money to coach football than he was to coach basketball. so at a dinner in the hotel during the great alaska shoot out when he and patsy were having dinner with frank and barbra broyles and john russell and his wife, eddie gets schit face drunk and proceeds to tell off broyles and gets up and walks away. then patsy proceeds to add an expletive filled exclamation point and then she walks away.
broyles had his replacement picked out with in 24 hours.
