The LSU fans leaving the stadium is the most pissed off I’ve ever seen a fanbase.

I was 19 at the time. I thought “seeing red” was just a figure of speech. I saw red that day. Also saw it again against Tennessee the next year but they found a way to outdo us.

Refusing to allow Jarrett Lee on the field while Jordan Jefferson fails to cross the 50 yard line.

Another history lesson.

1. Auburn was never accused of giving Fuell money. We were accused of putting him a nice apartment with a new car and a new boat. This came about as the result of two bama assistant coaches coming to his apartment posing as encyclopedia salesmen. Bama was incensed that Fuell came to Auburn rather than with them. They desperately needed a QB as their program was in the toilet under Ears Whitworth.

2. The bottomline in all this is real simple. Fuell came from what appeared to be a very average Guntersville family who could in no way afford what the kid had at Auburn. BUT, Daddy Fuell was a bootlegger making lots of money selling illegal booze. In the end, Auburn had two choices, take it in the shorts or see the kid's Dad put in jail. Auburn did the "honorable" thing and kept quiet. All this was fairly common knowlege at the time but certainly not something we could offficially use in court or with the NCAA. In retrospect, the real mistake Auburn made was allowing the kid to have these kind of toys in the first place.

The NCAA accused Auburn of giving Don Fuell a motorboat, an air conditioner, and a new car or $2200. Alabama hired a detective agency to dig up dirt on Auburn, and represenatives from the NCAA dressed as enclyopedia salesman in an effort to gain entrance into Don Fuell's department.

1.) That then Alabama head Coach J.B. (Ears) Whitworth asked SEC Commissioner Bernie Moore to investigate Auburn recruiting of Fuell in December, 1956.

2.) That Moore in a letter to the NCAA gave Auburn a clean bill and accused a former Alabama assistant and an alumnus of Oklahoma A&M where Whitworth was former coach of making unsubstantiated charges against Auburn with motives.

I'm kind of bummed I'm just now hearing these stories about "Ears". All the years we missed calling Morris "Ears".

2019 Florida had LSU on the ropes more than any other opponent (sorry UT, auburn, bama) only for Dan Mullen to sub Jones in for Kyle Trask and completely flipped all the momentum to LSU in that 4th quarter.

I remember watching that and being in complete shock at what was unfolding at the time. And happy.

Lane Kiffin refused to take a ton of easy field goals and continued to go for it on 4th down all game on the Plains and lost a close game.

One of the more frustrating games to have watched during the Kiffin coaching era.

the game was certainly forgotten to history but I still think Texas and bama were more touch and go. that was the most efficient and balanced performance by the offense that whole year. Grantham had no answer for CEH and the duo/rpo sets. lsu just beat them to death with their base stuff. kinda funny that the game mirrors the LSU-bama game from last year pretty well

In 1955 Alabama coach Ears Whitworth goes 0-10 and refuses to start legend Bart Starr.

It's not that he refused to start Bart Starr, it's that he was so disgusted by the play and attitude of the starters that he decided to bench them all. Whitworth had very little control over his players when it came to discipline. There would be fights at practice and players would downright refuse to listen to assistant coaches during drills. Starr also caught the injury bug that season, too.

Saban is the GOAT, but firing Lane before the NC game and hiring Pete Golden as DC probably cost him 2 more titles. Nobody's perfect lol.

Mario Cristobal not kneeling the ball with a guaranteed victory should be reason to fire with cause. That's blatant inexcusable negligence for a guy with a 15 million dollar a year staff that is paid to win football games.

Not starting may have saved Bart's career, lol.

Two things are worse (probably many things tbh).

Nick Saban chose to go for a first down on fourth and 1 at the Auburn 7 with 5 minutes to play, up 7 points. A FG clinches the game, that cost us a national title because we would have destroyed FSU, heck Auburn almost beat them after getting LUCKY vs. UGA and the refs cheated Bama via about 20-25 calls that game. Probably why Saban did that he was mad.

2ndly, not a football coach per se, but Auburn refusing to hire Kirby at the end of 2012 because he wanted to coach out Alabama's season, so they chose Gus Malzhan instead.

Kiffen had already accepted the other job and was trying to finish out the season with Bama while setting things up at Ole Miss. The offensive calls against Washington in the first round were so bad, even though we won, that he told Kiffen to leave and promoted Sark from analyst to OC.

I will have to look at that game again. Never Remember having 2019 LSU on the ropes but it was back and forth until late in the game I think.
