Honestly most stadiums should down size for better seats. Attendance is on the decline. Improve the experience so that the people that do come keep going to your games.
That’s what Florida’s Scott Strickland is basically saying ... he wants to improve the fan experience.
The other issue, and this is true for most programs in the conference these days, is that fan are not traveling like they used to because of expenses.
SC fans bought 4,000 tickets to the Florida game in Gainesville this past season, and that was by far the most of any visiting fan base on UF’s schedule.
The SEC programs used to regularly swap out 8k tickets with each other, sometimes 10k as both SC and UGA and SC and UT did back in the late 90s and early 2000s.
Both Florida and Bama ADs have expressed displeasure and disappointment with their students for failing to show. We don’t have that problem at SC ... at least not yet. Our problem is them leaving at halftime getting drunk.
But downsizing is the way of the future. It’s the same in the B1G. I’ve been to three Michigan games in the past four years, big games, rivalry games ... and the big house is never packed to capacity.

Imagine being Oklahoma and not having the money to do the renovations you originally wanted to

Renovating Kyle field to 90k vs 100k probably cost about the same.
If you get 90k for 5 games and 100k for 2 games a year, that’s an additional $1mm in revenue for each of those 100k games.
A&M has averaged over 98k for the last 4 years, 3 of which were over 100k.
The perception of empty seats on a program cost more than $1M revenue. When you have empty seats the premium ticket buyers will question the need to buy season tickets well in advanced. I have said it before, if you paid the premium Stubhub prices for the games that are worth seeing, most fans would cut their cost in half and would probably have better seats.

How does one know the attendance decline is here to stay?
Arkansas just expanded Razorback Stadium!!

add their new jumbotron in the upper deck of the end zone.
Jumbotrons should be illegal. I hate those things.

Nah. Alabama will be fine. That’s for your concern, bet Welcher.

We are dropping about 8k with our new Endzone complex. I honestly wish they would drop a country or thousand more and replace our bleachers with seat backs.

A&M has sold, on average, over 100k/game for the last 4 years, so hasn’t hurt too much.
Over 7 home games/yr, that’s an additional $28mm in rev over that period vs a 90k seat stadium, not even including the additional donations required for each seat.

Universities would have an easier time filling stadiums if the ticket-price bubble would burst.
I don’t think I would pay anything to sit in the uppers. It would have to be a huge matchup.

Why though? Arkansas just had their lowest avg attendance since 2001?

The next big wave in stadiums will be removing capacity to add in a more premium experience. Planes are moving more and more towards premium seating, people are willing to pay a little more for a better experience these days.
Theres also more money to be made doing this.

Yup, even while our attendance has been incredibly poor we have a waiting list on luxury boxes and can’t build them fast enough.

Athletic departments don’t give a shite about downsizing and people not going as long as those seats are bought and paid for.

Please explain that math ?

Get rid of bleachers and replace all seating with chair backs would be a good start.

And that expansion has been a huge fiasco.

28 games x 10,000 seats = 280,000 so I guess he's saying all the seats are 100 bucks? Kind of a rip, considering all the cheerleaders are dudes.

4 yrs * 7 home games/yr * $100/ticket * 10,000 ticket delta = $28,000,000 delta
$100ticket is estimated. With parking, concessions, donations, etc...the number is probably higher than $100 on average.
