lol. I think people who take pride in the "prestige" of the conference are losers that are accommodating for their own teams shortcomings. If it were up to me, I would hope that all other 13 SEC schools were garbage in every sport. Oh, they wouldn't be prestigious? WGAS we'd be winning all the time, which is what matters.

attended plenty of football, mbb, wbb, gymnastics, baseball, mens tennis, and womens tennis matches for UGA.

I would be ecstatic if the SEC could have 3 #1 seeds some day like the ACC has this year. It just gives us more respect as a conference

"respect" is just like upvotes or reddit karma, it's fun to talk about but what does it mean for real life?

In your scenario you would like the SEC to have 3 or 4 #1 seeds (obviously your team being one of them). Which looks great for "The SEC" but how good is that for your team? I mean hell, in 1995 landers had probably the best team he ever had at UGA, beat UT twice during the season (I believe, may be wrong there) then lost to them in the national title game. Sure we can chant "all SEC finals baybee!" but in reality it would have been much better having UT suck and us play someone else, probably leading ot a national title.

Here’s the deal - whenever two teams play we will usually want one of those two teams to win, especially if we are familiar with one of the teams we are watching. I mean- if two smaller schools from California that I have never heard of play each other I won’t care but if say Stanford plays USC, I will probably lean towards one of those schools winning.

Is making money old school?

Every win in the tournament nets money for the entire conference which is redistributed (socialism basically) equally to all conference members.

Even Vandy making bank off every win.

I mean there isn't anything UGA would want to do but says "aw geez we just don't have the money, if ONLY ole miss would have knocked off oklahoma we could finally build that [x]!" Every SEC school makes money, a lot of it.

And again, I'm pulling for every team in the OP becuase I have them in my bracket. I want them to win! But I'm doing it for personal reasons and not because I get some false sense of pride or superiority bc the conference is winning.

Do we need to remind Auburn fans of the 2018 Tournament?

You remember 2009? LSU won the SEC, and the rest of the league was garbage... so exactly as you prescribe. LSU was 26-7 entering the tourney.

Mostly on the basis of the SEC sucking, they made LSU an 8 seed. Got Butler in rd 1, we got past them (and they made runs all the way to the Finals in 2010 and 2011). UNC in rd 2, and LSU actually still had a lead with 8 minutes left before UNC took control (UNC won the title that season).

Based on winning a major conference, LSU should have been at least a 3 seed. Based on how they played 2 bigtime teams, they should have been at least a 3. A better draw and bracket and they could have been Elite 8 or Final Four... team had solid guard play, good post and an athletic 7 ft center.
But because, as you wish, the rest of the SEC was garbage, we got an 8 and faced the overall #1 in the second round.

That's why I root for every SEC team that gets in, and I root for a lot to make it. Nobody likely beats Duke this season, but teams like UK and Tenn can probably beat almost anyone else. LSU, had Wade not been suspended, would be in that group too. Auburn can be 100% hot/cold, and when hot can beat anybody. You don't want teams like that playing 1 seeds opening weekend.

VOLS and Miss st should win. Ole Miss is going to have a tough game and is my only real concern, but I have them winning.

I just wanna see the ACC 1 seeds lose.

If LSU can knock off Duke a la 2006, it will be glorious.

Need some help to take out UNC and UVA.

Well, I'm nervous. We certainly have a mixed history as a 5 seed in the tournament. I remember seemingly everyone I knew picking Butler against us in 2003, and that came to fruition. We also lost to Eastern Michigan as a 5 seed over 25 year ago. But, then again, we made two Sweet 16's and our only Final Four as a 5 seed.

I thought we lost to Xavier as the #2 seed, and Butler was a 5/12 game.

Oh well, memories fade thank goodness. Except the memory of Butler players dancing on the scorers table after that game

In football thats fine. In basketball that doesnt work. Thats how you go 25-5 and still end up as an 10 seed matched up again the runner up of the Big 10 in the first round then a 2 seed.

That was a very underrated butler team. They would have beaten most teams that night.

Butler was a first round 5/12 game in 2003, and Xavier was a second round 2/7 game or something like that in 2004. At least I think that's correct. I've slept a few times since then.

The Butler game was a particular kick to the nuts because we scored less than 50 points and only lost by 1. They zoned the hell out of us and slowed the game down.

Zone defenses were Stansbury kryptonite in those days.

FUN FACT: for all his accomplishments at State, Rick Stansbury never took a MSU team to the sweet sixteen as a head coach. He did get there on Richard Williams' coattails however.
