Do you think Birmingham could support a NFL team?

It would require the leadership of the city/county to get its head out of its arse (a long way to go) but it could be done.

People seem to think the Alabama/Auburn loyalties would be too powerful a draw but more football would never be a bad thing. If Green Bay and Nashville can support teams Birmingham could too.

You have a very inflated view of how much Saints fans care about where Saints played college ball.

Bingo.

Most Saints don't care if a guy went to Bama.

Does this not occur with LSU and Tulane fans?

No because Tulane fans move back home to New Jersey after they graduate.

People here get touchy when the word "cajun" is used if you're not directly referencing the area around Lafayette. Maybe I should have used "Louisiana" culture.

I prefer that people be accurate when referring to my heritage.

For those in this thread unaware, look at a map of Louisiana. Put a pin in Ville Platte and draw lines at a 45 degree angle on either side down to the gulf and that is generally the accepted area considered "Cajun Country".

Not at all. Like I said, anyone asking for the most productive back this year to be traded just shows how much they do care about where a saint played college ball. There have been a lot asking for ingram to go, even after he ran like a mad man down the stretch.

Same goes for lsu. There's a thread every week proposing the saints draft an lsu player.

To clarify, I don't think all saints fans feel this way, and I think very few give a shite where a saint played in college...unless of course said saint played at Alabama.

Had Ridley gone to New Orleans and had the same career to date as ingram (disappointing injury riddled first two season, mediocre start to the third, very strong finish) then Saints would be singing his praises right now

I think it would be terrible for Alabama and Auburn.

Therefore, I fully support a NFL team for Birmingham.

Nashville population 609,000
Birmingham population 212,000

The Green Bay Packers are one of the oldest NFL organizations in the league. They've had a following for a long time

I never said that didn't play into it...but this view point doesn't make it less true that a saints/lsu fans is going to be less forgiving with a former alabama player

Well the Titans are definitely the reason that Vandy and UT are so bad, so you're definitely right. Also every other pro team in proximity to every major college team ever has similar results.

You only have one player to base your opinion on, because it doesn't carry over. And you seem to be discounting his performance for the majority of his career, the fact that he was drafted in the first round after the Saints trded up for him, and that the Saints got rid of a more productive3 back to keep him around while trying to generalize that it all boils down to where he went to school.

The metro area of Birmingham is over a million. Not to mention it's a stone's throw from Montgomery and Tuscaloosa. It could certainly be done.

Some people have no vision.
