So even more likely he gets canned. I missed the 75% part. That's alot of money they don't* have to pay. That practically guarantees his departure at 8-4.
He could save himself another year or two doing what Paul Johnson did and renegotiate down.

His offense led the nation in 2013 with a DB running the offense. When was the last time an SEC team led the nation in rushing?

No shite? You understand that it wasn't 2010?

I like how you said "at least beat Georgia" like it's not that hard.

It wouldn't make much sense to fire an HC who, despite disappointing results against our biggest rivals, still wins far more than he loses, avoids losing to bad teams most of the time (UTee in 2018 is the only team he's ever lost to that finished under .500), recruits well and keeps his players off the headlines for the most part. Especially to replace him with either (a) an expensive "proven" P5 HC, despite a shortage of potential candidates; (b) a successful 'flavor of the month' G5 HC, which is a complete crapshoot (for every Urban Meyer there are a lot more Butch Joneses, Jim McElwains, Larry Fedoras and Justin Fuentes); or (c) take a chance on a hotshot P5 coordinator and hope it works out (see (b) above).
Speaking of guaranteed departures - how hot would Kirby's seat get if he finished 8-4 this year? His buyout is about 3-4 million less than Gustav's, no?

I could see him in trouble if we are not competitive in our remaining 3 big games, if we lost respectably he'll prob get a pass
Agreed.
And if Gus wins one of the 3 and doesn't lose any other games I think he's a lock to be back next year.

The gus malzahn experiment has run its course. The whole reason they hired him was because he was supposedly the secret ingredient to the 2010 NC. Nevermind that chiz d was awesome and Cam was awesome... it was gus that would lead them to the promised land, they said.
I was actually impressed with what Auburn did in 2009...7-5 with a first year coach and came within less than 2 minutes of wrecking it for Alabama.
2010 D was not impressive at all. Every game was a shootout. Granted, Gus did have the coolest toy in anyone's toy box that year, but still.

Yea, the Florida game will stick in my craw no matter what but 9-3 with arguably the toughest schedule in the country is not bad.

I think if he loses the big 3 in pretty bad fashion, then it'll be similar to last year where there are some talks/moves behind the scenes but nothing with any real steam, so he starts 2020 truly on the hot seat needing a minimum of 9 wins IMO.
Next year is probably when it gets very serious for Gus in that scenario. If he can go 9-3 this year and win a bowl game that'll likely earn him one more pass for 8-5 type bullshite.

I hope so! His dumbass is still playing the wrong quarterback. Joey Gatewood, a potential Cam Newton, fits his offense perfectly. I said potential!

I think AU loses at least 2-3 between Bama, LSU, and UGA probably all 3. Add in the UF loss and if big if they drop one more he could be in trouble.

He has one loss with one of the toughest SOS in the nation with a freshman QB. I doubt he is on the hot seat outside of message board fans.

Gus would have to lose 5 and to do that, he'd have to lose to either Arky or Ole Miss AND all 3 of Bama, UGA and LSU. That is a possibility, but not likely. Losing to the big 3 left on the schedule would suck...but the true freshman QB buys him some grace. No way Gus is fired for losing those 3+UF.

Gus is safe as long as the loses are respectable loses. Never mind what happened last year, it’s all in the past.
