This is the kind of question that gets me in the frame of mind of "are you just trolling" ? Because its an obvious question with an obvious answer - to anyone that's followed sports for any period of time.
Yet - my boy, 18 years old and getting ready to go off to the military - asks as dumb and dumber questions all the time.
There are ... if you read anything regarding how scholarships work, Title IX works, and all the rest - two and only two revenue generating sports in college. [b]FOOTBALL[/i] - in all caps because football is the straw that stirs the drink for every Power V and most Division I athletic programs. And Men's Basketball.
There are exceptions to the above. Some elite Women's Basketball. Some Baseball. And that's it. Everything else is done at a loss. Which explains why shite like Women's Crew (rowing) is so popular. It lets you put a bunch of chics in a boat, with one coach and maybe a van and trailer to pull their gear around ... and you get to comply with Title IX for about two dozen others that actually generate money.

It's the "biggest city" in terms of people actually living within the city limits. The Birmingham metro area is still the largest actual city in the state by a good margin.
Huntsville Metro: 491k
Birmingham Metro: 1.1 million
And there’s a lot of room for the population to move back into Birmingham city proper if the city leadership would stop driving it into the porta potty.

Yes, many basketball schools make bank. In the early days of modern media it was MCBB that brought in the most revenue. Unlike CFB after the Supreme Court decision, almost all of that revenue goes to the NCAA, not the basketball schools.

You would be correct sir

Some make money, the collective TV contract probably makes everyone in the conference whole.
I would say there is not a single women’s sport that comes close to breaking even.

In 2022, rounded, Bama football brought in $131 million with $79 million expenses for $52 million net profit. Men's basketball brought in $19 million with $11 million in expenses for $8 million profit. Those two tend to be the only sports making profit, though I would suspect that softball and gymnastics do quite well with the sellout crowds they get.

Again, you cook the books to make it appear you make less so you can beg donors for more.

Ole miss has over seven million dollars in revenue in baseball… they only had 4 million in revenue in basketball… it’s pathetic

If you consider the gain in students due to their sports program they generate a lot of more revenue. Alabama has doubled in size during Saban's time there. It also more than doubled when the Bear was there. I can guarantee you it wouldn't have if it were not winning like that. This advertising is having the exact desired affect.
then explain TAMU…. their football and yet enrollent at c station is prob over 125,000 now… lol boom

I know Will Wade fanboys think he is the greatest thing ti ever happen, but basketball at LSU has never lost money. TV contracts cause that to never happen.

Which is why (outside the Ivy League) you should doubt the sincerity of a school with a women's rowing team. A possible exception may be rivals
Alabama has a rowing team
Tennessee has a rowing team
They are the only 2 SEC schools with a team.
I really believe if Georgia got a rowing team Auburn would have one within a week. Same with tLandmass.

I think Oklahoma makes money but it’s hard to tell with the constant s**tshow that is displayed every game.

It may just be a section of the athletic dept P&L, but it’s in the P&L.

The rule of thumb has been that football supports the rest of the sports, but basketball typically breaks even and in some cases might turn a small profit. After football and basketball, the other sports typically lose money.
