With the cost of travel, staff salaries, small venues, it’s got to be thin.

I would think most SEC basketball programs make a shite ton of money compared to other sports not named football.

The State of Alabama should get a NBA team. Birmingham Tide! This would be great for the State of Alabama! Go for it!

College sports are really just advertising if you look at it from a business perspective. So, even if it looses money advertising is supposed to be an expense anyway.

Businesses advertise to generate revenue.

I found some information on this.

Of the SEC (first number is national ranking:

3) Kentucky $39m
15) Arkansas $22m
18) Tennessee $21m

Includes both men and women’s bball.

Richest college bball programs

If you consider the gain in students due to their sports program they generate a lot of more revenue. Alabama has doubled in size during Saban's time there. It also more than doubled when the Bear was there.

I can guarantee you it wouldn't have if it were not winning like that. This advertising is having the exact desired affect.

Do none of you have a television?
If so have none ever watched basketball on it?
Does it come as a surprise that schools are paid for that?

I read a year or two ago that most basketball programs turn profit, granted not very much. Like 10 baseball programs turn profit yearly with slim margins. The rest and all other sports lose money yearly.

It's the "biggest city" in terms of people actually living within the city limits. The Birmingham metro area is still the largest actual city in the state by a good margin.

As aggravating as it is he’s not wrong. I work with a guy that’s born and raised in Grapevine Texas.and for whatever damn reason elected to go to the University of Alabama and dumb himself down.He claims that he just loved University of Alabama but he’s like 24 years old and I have a hunch he might have been a “big Georgia fan” had he been born a few years later

Yes because most games are televised even if game attendance isn’t huge.

All these revenue pieces but I’m interested in actual profits per program. That has to be available to right? At least for the public schools…
