Take away all their claimed national championships, they may have 5 or 6. The toothless fricks have to compensate for small weens and extra chromosomes.

This is an odd thread, considering how long ago 1978 was as well as the fact that Alabama has won seven national championships (all of them unanimous) since then.

They have won a good many, but

Come on,man. Of course they do and they should. Southern Cal did indeed beat them at Legion Field. But it was early in the season and Alabama didn't lose again, nor were they really challenged until the Sugar Bowl.
Blame the poll guys if you want to. Southern Cal's win over Alabama was no secret. Everyone knew about and knew it was in Birmingham.Actually,Alabama had gotten hosed in mid-November when then #1 Oklahoma lost to #4 Nebraska. #2 Penn State then moved to #1 and Nebraska jumped Alabama moving to #2 as Alabama stayed #3. Nebraska had one loss at the time ----to Alabama, 20-3 in the season opener.
Fortunately for Alabama, 1970's giant killer Missouri upset Nebraska in Lincoln, or Penn State would have met the 'Huskers in the Orange for the national title.
Southern Cal was #3 going into the bowls in both polls. Alabama beat #1 Penn State. Southern Cal beat #5 Michigan 17-10 on Charles White's phantom touchdown that he actually fumbled and lost on the Michigan 3.

I think that most don't really give a shite, but perpetuate it because it triggers folks like you so much, as made evident by your post here.

As already stated it was 1941, but in the interest of accuracy Bama went 9-2, not 8-3. Still shouldn't claim that one.

Denver is hostile this morning.

You obviously suffer from small ween syndrome

What exactly is your definition of that word? Alabama claims national championships before the Poll Era (1925, 1926, 1930, and 1934) but also claim (illegitimately IMHO) 1941 despite the fact that we finished 9-2 and #20 in the AP Poll.
But the following national titles were awarded by major selectors:
1961: AP & Coaches
1964: AP & Coaches
1965: AP
1973: Coaches
1978: AP
1979: AP & Coaches
1992: AP & Coaches
Then you get into the BCS/Playoff Era where the Crimson Tide has finished #1 on five separate occasions: 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017.
So what exactly is your definition of the word "claimed"?

Bama likes to claim any open or unclaimed championship.
They do that for the years 1925, 1926, 1930, 1934, 1941.
All of those are "retroactive championships". No one was named, so Bama claimed them.

Bama was #1 in one poll with a head to head loss to USC
So now Bama is bad for claiming titles for a season in which they were ranked #1 in AP Poll at the end of the year? Never change, corndogs

Why don't you do basic research before you come into this thread looking like a retard? If you're going to troll, at least do it intelligently. A simple google search would have saved you the two minutes it took you to type this nonsense.

Notre Dame won, but Bama claims it.
Because Bama was awarded the UPI trophy which was before the game. Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Auburn claim national titles where the didnt even play in a bowl game. Tennesee claims a title where they lost their bowl game and I think Minnesota too. Again, if you can find me a school that was awarded the UPI or AP title and doesnt claim it Ill buy that Bama shouldnt

Half of the polls considered bowl games as vacations. That was the standard for over half a century.

Toss in 1973 as well.
There’s several titles they claim where they lost their bowl game, but instead claimed it at the end of the regular season.

Oklahoma was also awarded the national championship in 1950 by all major selectors before losing the Sugar Bowl to a Bear Bryant-coached Kentucky team. Had those selectors waited until after the post-season to proclaim a national champion, Kentucky likely wins it that year.
