Well that would be dumb as shite since it isn't a rivalry game

Half of the teams in the conference are below average. It is a literal definition.

About 75% of the conference is mediocre (only 4 conference teams with a winning record in conference).

Tech has a bcs bowl win in the last 10 years (over an SEC team). Conference championship.
And winning record over 40% of their SEC opponents the past 10 years (that percentage gets much bigger over 20 years when you add teams like Auburn).
Tech has a more recent win over UGA than Vandy, Tennessee, Missouri, Kentucky in the East (Ole Miss, Miss St, Arkansas, A&M in the West).

GA Tech is just pathetic.

True, but they have a more impressive football history than Ole Miss, Miss State, Kentucky, Missouri, aTm, Arkansas. South Carolina, Vandy and possibly Auburn and Florida. Tech has been a national power winning four national titles and 16 conference titles.

Since 2006 they have made their conference championship game 4 times, something a lot of SEC teams, including Tennessee, haven't done.

So it hasn't been a great rivalry lately and I am very happy about that, but don't pretend it's worse than every other SEC 'rivalry' game.

UGAs whole schedule is pathetic, so their "rivalry" game against an Atlanta high school shouldn't be surprising.

Tech is 14 games over .500 against Florida. Even UGA is only 10 games over .500.

Well none of that shite is true.
Tech has never spent one single week as the #1 team in the country per the AP poll since the AP poll has existed.

Tech is better than half of the SEC.
But we don't need to make shite up.

That is the basic point.

It would be even worse if Arkansas was on it again instead of clanga

Georgia Tech needs to come into the SEC to give Georgia some in-state competition. Tech will improve and recruit better as an SEC team.

I never thought I’d miss the days of playing Arkansas this weekend.

I believe one year (maybe 2013 Kick 6 game) you had Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving, LSU v Arky on Friday, and the Iron Bowl on Saturday.

Really wish they would have kept that schedule every year. That's 3 straight days of really good football.

God forbid I take up for tech, but yeah - it's true. Some sites claim tech has won 7 national titles. They've also won five SEC titles. So - it's been awhile, but tech has been a national power, regardless of AP rankings.

Auburn, Tennessee, Clemson, and FSU are all closer to Georgia high school recruits than UGA is (border schools)
It isn't the geography or conference.

Tech just needs to hire better coaches.
Paul Johnson was a timebomb on the program that everyone saw coming. He won big games. But he was going to be hell to follow with 5 tight ends playing in the offensive line.

There’s a reason why “send the yellow jackets to a watery grave” is in the Alabama fight song. The only other mascot mentioned is bulldogs.

FYI for you young non historian types of college football fans.

I’d be cool with playing Clemson every year during rivalry week instead. They would have to move their game with cocky up in the season though.

Nationally relevant and a national power are two different things.

If a team has never been #1 in the country per the AP poll (not even for a week), then that team can't be considered a national power. It is just a shouting match of "my dad can beat up your dad" that never actually gets settled.

We didn’t have Arkansas on the schedule this year so this year our schedule was slightly stronger.

Georgia Tech seriously hurt themselves when they jumped on the triple option train. That’s kind of a one way trip. Triple option teams can win games they shouldn’t, but nobody has successfully transitioned out of the triple option in the last 20 years. Nebraska is still trying.

Before that, GT had some solid years here and there. It’s going to take a LONG time for them to get back to that. They’re probably better off just going back to the option and being an occasional 7-8 win team with that.

Tech isn't going to do anything in the CFB world until the administration starts caring about football again.

But you're right. It isn't the geography or the conference, or even the coaching imo. It's all the important people involved with Tech don't care. I think they could drop their entire athletic department tomorrow and it wouldn't cause much of a ruckus.

And I say this as someone who grew up as a semi Ga Tech fan. I think it would be good for the ACC and CFB as a whole. CFB needs the "traditional" schools to stay relevant as much as possible.

Tech is a better program than Liberty.

And Oregon is better than Arkansas' entire OOC schedule combined.

UGA has no control over the conference schedule (so I hope you aren't one of those fans in favor of 9 or 10 conference games because it would include more "pathetic". honestly)

Ahem.....GT just had a big come-from-behind win at 13th ranked UNC....they also beat #24 Pitt on the road, too....they're getting their stuff together.....the game will be very physical, most likely played in wet conditions.

GT will be trying to become bowl-eligible....they hate our guts....it'll be tougher than most are expecting.

If they had a tough rival they would have already opted out. Why do you think they go into a catatonic state whenever it is suggested not playing Auburn each year?
