Do you think Mark Ingram was the best choice for the Heisman in 2009

1. Closest vote in history by 28 points
2. Runner up (Toby Gerhart) had 1871 rushing yards and 28 TDs for season vs Ingram's 1678 rushing and 17 TDs for season

What are your opinions?

I think most people realize it was racially motivated.

Toby got screwed. Stanford had a special year that was less expected than Alabama's year.

You could argue he didn't deserve it, but in truth it was a year where nobody really deserved it. It was a good time to get Bama the trophy. Ingram seems like a decent dude so good for him. He put that 2009 team on his back in a couple of games.

bama was the best team, coming off a huge win over UF in the SECCG and playing for the national title..and a bama player had never won before.

I think there's a lot of evidence pointing to the fact it went to the wrong person.

His team was undefeated. That has more of an impact these days it seems. He had a heck of a year but probably wasn't the MVP to his team like others were.

It's ancient history and there are far more dubious Heisman choices we could second guess.

Probably not, but it was a weak year. A lot of SEC players have had seasons similar to Ingrams, but few have won.

I don't hold it against Ingram, I just hold it against the media which gives the benefit of the doubt to certain teams and coaching. I can't say I care much about the Heisman in any year, but McCarron finishing ahead of Tre Mason disturbed me more than Ingram winning.

This year ruined the Heisman for me forever.

I mean Toby Gerhart was the better choice stat wise but ingram was on a nation championship team and that tends to swing voters

Individual award given on a team accomplishment is pretty much horseshite.

So it bothers you that Tre finished behind someone who didn't even win the award?

When your entire Heisman campaign is based on no one from your school ever winning one and not your accomplishments then you aren't that great. State's RB was better.
