What is defined as considerable financial success? I could comfortably retire tomorrow but continue to work. I have zero debt. I just think spending money on athletes that could walk without notice isn’t the best investment. I invest in my family first, as opposed to young men that play a sport.
That wouldn’t change if I won the lottery

I give to AU NIL but it's all earmarked for basketball. I'm not above giving to football, but AU having a good basketball program has been a genuine joy.
I'm invested in AU football for better or worse, but for so long basketball was a non-factor. I've been more invested in AU basketball than most AU people since childhood, but still, I won't pretend I didn't largely tune out during the many year when we're mostly irrelevant.
So Pearl essentially gave me a new consistent source of entertainment during the winter months, a new thing to be enthused about and which I can share with my sons, etc. I'm willing to pay to try and keep that going, and my primary goal isn't so much success in a given year but rather to try and keep putting the foundation in place for Auburn to have the best possible chance to field a competitive program in decades to come (once Pearl is gone).

I still donate to the Alumni Association for my college, I still send a payment of 1,200 a year to my highschool athletic booster club. I support NIL through merch and attending events that fund NIL deals. My employer does significant donations to UT and to NIL deals for athletes.
I tend to support the school over the athletes because when the athletes are gone the school will still be there, but I understand this is the way things work now and the schools need the athletes. And I’m more likely to support Baseball and Basketball than Football as those players tend to stay longer or finish at UT.

I am a Tennessee Fund donor. I'll help pay for the scholarships and equipment. I'll let the rich guys pay for the NIL.

I gave a decent amount the first two years and then realized it was a bottomless pit. The more I give, the higher the amount players ask for.
Once they put a cap on it, I will give again.

I don’t.
The reason is I don’t see any return or wealth creation for me or my family.

If I owned a local business in a college town, I could justify spending a little for meet and greet with players. Outside of that, I just don’t see any justification to contribute when money could be better spent on family, community or charity. Not all, but a good portion of these kids are spending like no tomorrow on cars, clothes etc. All the while playing on their PlayStation or Xbox while their tutor earns them some meaningless degree. Long term NIL isn’t doing anyone any favors except a select few.
