Do we know how they’re gonna restructure the SEC when OU and UT join?

I know 4 pods has been discussed as has just realigning the West and East. Do we have an idea which one is being leaned toward? And who makes that call—the university presidents or Sankey? And how much will keeping the Iron Bowl, Bama/Tennessee, OU/UT (Red River Shootout), and the Florida/Georgia(Biggest Outdoor Cocktail Party) rivalry games every year play a part?

Probably, but maybe not if it’s the pods. You’d have to think OU, UT, A&M, and Arkansas would be the old Big 8/12 pod. And LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Mizzou? Or to make it more even and not frick A&M, swap Mizzou for A&M. So:

Pod 1:

OU
UT
Arkansas
Missouri

Pod 2:

LSU
A&M
Ole Miss
State

A&M will absolutely push to not be in some dumb redo of the big 12. I think whats been discussed and makes sense is we do away with divisions and pods and we just have 3 schools every team plays every year and then we rotate through the others in a 9 game conference schedule

For A&M that would be LSU, OM, and MSU for example

Protects the games that bama abd auburb will cry about and lets us play everyone every 2 years

Is that not what we'd do with the pods?

Isn’t that the same as 4 pods of 4 teams?

In practice...yes. But it allows flexibility in the sense that not all schools will have the same permanent opponents which might help alleviate some pod issues

In A&Ms example, just because we would play LSU and OM and MSU every year, that doesnt mean LSU would be forced into playing OM or MSU every year and vice versa

Seems way more complicated than just doing pods.

Possibly. But with pods we are almost certainly going to have to deal with cross pod permanent opponents which will only help create the same problems we have now with how long it takes to play everyone

If you can come to me and say we will have pods and rotate by playing 2 schools from each pod every year and have this setup

A&M, LSU, OM, and MSU
UT, OU, Mizzou, and Arky
Bama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vandy
Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, USC

I think it would be an easy set up and most of everyone would be ok with it. The issue would be getting auburn and georgia on board with no longer playing every year

It took me a minute to understand how this was different than pods, but I understand what you're saying now. That sounds pretty complicated to figure out but I guess there are people that get paid specifically to figure stuff like this out.

I'd be down.

It’s going to be pods. That’s the only way that makes any sense. Two divisions means you have to go to at least a 9 game sec schedule. Even at 9 games, a player would only play each cross-division team once in their 4 year career. Pod system gives the players the opportunity to get more home and away experiences in games.

Why wouldn’t LSU want to play those schools every year?
