Penn St isn’t as good a program as TAMU

Penn State is a borderline blue blood and the king of the northeast. Texas A&M isnt on that level They are a mediocre football school with significant resources and can certainly pay him if they want but PSU is a more prestigious job.
The stories of the hell raising Dawson, Joe Deforest and Dana Holgorsen did in Morgantown are legendary.
BIG 10 is top heavy this year. OSU AND IU are clearly the best 2 teams in the country and Oregon is top 5...Michigan, Washington and Illinois are top 20 or so and then is a huge fall off...Penn State and Wisconsin being as bad as they are hurt any type of parity
He hired him the first place which was a mistake.

Woodward is a lazy AD who makes lazy hires...Very linear thinking which doesnt seem to go beyond "has been successful before, people know his name. Sign him"
Depends on what goals are. If you want to be winning program but a step below the top dogs franklin is your guy. However if you want to win a championship hes not. Last year was as good of a chance as he will have and he blew against ND, a team where PSU was vastly more talented.

Penn State has the infrastructure and resources to compete for championships and it became apparent franklin wasnt going to win one.

The “excuse” Penn st will use for Rhule… he’s a good coach and wins just hasn’t had the resources or program to get over the hump (same excuse we at LSU used for Kelly)

Most PSU fans would revolt at this. There are some influential Penn Staters that want him but most of them can see how hiring someone because theyre "one of us" is usually a disaster.
Penn St will be targeting a different group than FL and LSU. Seems like LSU/FL will be after Kiffin and Drinkwitz while PSU is going to try to get Joe Brady, Brian Hartline or Matt Rhule.

There's talk they are looking at Deboer and Elko but those guys will be deep into the playoffs and PSU doesnt want to wait that long.
Coach firings dont really work like that...LSU and Penn State didnt expect to fire their coaches this year so no, they dont really have anyone lined up.

When a coach completely loses a fan base and locker room you need to make the move immediately, and there are hardly ever deals already done.

They'll be starting at square one.

Hes on PSUs radar...the Bills owner is a PSU alum and one of their biggest posters...hes trying to push brady there
Penn State just fired a better version of Brian Kelly...the arent downgrading.
Flacco is the perfect frick it let er rip kinda guy...works nice when you have those receiving threats.

re: Les Miles 2.0

As frustrating as Les Miles could be, his teams always had pride and rarely got pushed around...Those LSU squads didnt usually lose the battle of being physical.

Now its a weekly occurrence. The team is now soft and it starts with its leader.

I got down voted to hell last week for saying it’s an incredibly overrated job.

Yes they have been a revolving door of coaches. Zook, Muschamp, Mcelwian, Napier so for whatever reason they havent had any stability.

PSU on the other hand has had 3 coaches since 1966. That stability will appeal to some candidates.

Rank the Open CFB Coaching Jobs

1A Penn State - Undisputed king of college football in PA and the Northeast. $700 million currently underway in facility upgrades. Fundraising was a cluster frick from 2011-2022ish from the JoePa fan boys upset about how he was "treated"..seems to be total alignment now in buying a successful program. Huge alumni base with wealthy donors.

1B Florida - One of the more coveted jobs in the SEC. History surprisingly thin outside the Spurrier and Meyer years. Would rank them slightly below PSU because of this and they share the State with FSU and The U. Most coaches would probably find Gainesville FL more desirable to live than State College PA

2 Arkansas - Tough job to win big but they have resources and Fayetteville is beautiful.

3 UCLA - We know the challenges they face but living in LA and playing in the Rose Bowl will appeal to some.

4 Virginia Tech - Dedicated fan base, upgraded stadium and facilities, have good in state recruiting bases.

5 Oklahoma State - Have good facilities, with the right coach they have a path to win the Big 12.

6 Oregon State - Tough gig.

Ideal scenario is Kelly leaves for PSU who would absolutely take him. He gets to be back in the Midwest where he belongs. And give me Drinkwitz

PSU has no interest in Kelly, they just fired a coach who cant win a big game they dont need older, grumpier version of the same thing

Im surrounded by Penn Staters and the well connected folks are saying first choices are Elko and Joe Brady (PSUs biggest donor owns the Bills).

A lot of old Paterno heads want Rhule but fans would revolt - the shine has worn off him.
James frabklin isnt really old. I bet Florida or Auburn scoop him up.
Many great teams have gone on the road to Iowa and shite the bed. For some reason that is a tough place to play.
People to stop saying Indiana doesnt have talent. Hear it alot of this board and it's only because of their name...this is the NIL and Indiana has some absolute dogs on that squad.
