All over Twitter, the Bama board, etc., they are whining about how the sport is ruined and how “nobody has loyalty anymore”

Not to mention they are angry at Kirby, Sark, etc for “stealing” their players.

I know they’re not the brightest bunch, but I’m actually shocked by the lack of self awareness.

For the last few years, transfers have been a massive piece of Bama’s rosters

Gibbs
Henry T
Burton
Jameson Williams
Trez
Ricks

I didn’t see any Bama fans crying about disloyalty when they picked up those guys in the portal

I’m still trying to decide if they are really stupid, or just in denial. It’s probably both

It ain’t no fun when the rabbit’s got the gun I guess

Why would you cry when things are going well for you? I also did not see any Georgia fans crying either.

But, I think this is a great point. No team can claim that there is any player loyalty to their school/tradition until they clean up the NIL/TP stuff.

They actually thought bama was above players abandoning their program in mass :rotf:

Saban retiring in the transfer portal era could not have been more perfect timing to illustrate what people have been arguing for quite some time - there is nothing inherently special or advantageous to Bama outside of having a legend at coach.

I say that as a compliment as well, because they had to put the work in as a program to become so dominant, as it should be.

But I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I am relishing in the fans who thought it was because "We're DAMN BAMA!" having their worldview completely shattered into a million pieces overnight.

UGA loses 20+ guys to the portal every year and we don’t cry about it.

So did Alabama. Our fans are only crying about it now because it affects them directly. I seriously doubt it happens but if Kirby leaves and goes to the NFL, Georgia fans will cry just as much.

This is the first coaching change in the portal era for Bama and obviously it is opening some people’s eyes on how punitive it can be.

Bama will just have to weather the storm until the portal opens for everyone and then try to rebuild.

There’s literally a thread on the Bama board right now talking about how Downs & Proctor leaving is a sign of the death of CFB and how they are just guns for hire.

And the funniest thing about all this is that the exodus was started because of a brand new coaching staff. In my opinion, that’s probably the most legitimate reason to transfer.

Players should be able to go where they want. I think it will ultimately make college football a lesser product with teams turning over their roster so much in the long run, but I think players should be able to go play where they want if a school will have them.

My only problem with the current state of the transfer rule is that the portal is open only for teams who have a coaching change so that a team can lose players but has very little options to simultaneously fill those positions. I'm sure this loophole/issue will be corrected in the near future going forward.

You can’t see a difference in all teams being able to use the tranfer portal at the same time and what’s going on right now? Which is an Alabama player auction.

Players just had a month to tranfer. And they get another chance in April.

You really want a coaching change, during good times, to be a death penalty for every top program? The rest of CFB can link arms and destroy any top ~15 program while they have no ability to fill open spots. And it promotes the WORST part of NIL which is shady fly by the seat of your pants money and lambo slinging.

Y’all realy want this?

I love the bama coping mechanism of imagining made up scenarios that won't ever happen.

Alabama immediately had 9 in the portal after their semis. Alabama fans didn’t complain.

Obviously some emotional wrecks are complaining about player loyalty at the moment. Every fanbase would have them. Make fun I guess, if that’s what makes you happy.

Most of us are shocked that the rules could ever reach a place where CFB holds auctions for rosters with no ability for them to add players.
