Disney blacked out Direct TV for 2 weeks just last year.

You may not have noticed, but you definitely had 2 weeks of ESPN/ABC games taken off your DirectTV service last September.

It doesn't matter which cable/streaming service you use, Disney pulls this blackout bullshite on all of them.

YoutubeTV reaches out to offer to continue running the programming while they fight over the money.

Disney says screw you, we'll go forever!

Neither one of them care about any of us, but Disney can't even bother attempt to use some PR.

Frick Disney, and I will not chase after them.

I can watch games later, and I can actually go to games if I want to support my teams.

I just got a $20 credit from You Tube TV. More than offsets my ESPN package I already had. A bit of a pain in the arse to watch it on ESPN app and still don't have the ABC local affiliate. But, I can get by but wife watched ABC in the morning but not really a communist.

You can watch the ABC games for free on espn.com

Not sure about your wife and ABC in the morning, I know they have some news things you can watch but not sure about entire shows etc.

YouTube is the one trying to keep costs down for the consumer. Disney is trying to jack it up.

YouTube is also on record publicly, multiple times, asking Disney to put the channels back online while the companies negotiate so the consumers (us) don't miss out on content they're paying for.

Disney's position, publicly is essentially "frick you, pay me" and "frick the consumers, pay me" respectively.

If you're following the negotiations at all, its very clear who is being the a-hole.

Additionally Disney's CFO yesterday said publicly that Disney is winning new subscribers to Fubo and Hulu as a result of blacking out YouTube, so they're happy to let the consumer pain continue. Which, if a traditional broadband company were to do, would be a violation of fair competition laws.

My question is this....at what point does the SEC, NFL, etc....say too Disney we've signed contracts with you to broadcast our content and you aren't. Can the SEC, NFL say Disney is hurting their brand , earning power so they can legally opt out and move their product to a different network. I don't know if that's even possible.

I don't either, but I've had the same thought.

The NFL doesn't do much with Disney, just Monday Night games. But the SEC relies on Disney for all of their football broadcasts, and we are coming up on a quarter of the season being blacked out on one of the largest distributors in the country.

I think the SEC would be well within their rights to start pressuring Disney of they dont get games back on the air.

I would love to see these leagues get involved as a support for their fans.

I don't think they actually have leverage, though. The money is flowing from the Mouse to them. For that reason, as long as Disney makes the payments, they are substantively in compliance with the contracts.

But, I'm not a lawyer, so I might not know all of the contract law details involved.

Yes, Disney is paying for the right to air games, but the conference is also dependant on Disney for exposure.

Sports rely on viewership for popularity, exposure, and growth. If the SEC isn't getting the exposure Disney promised, the SEC will suffer.

Disney's blackout is actively harming the value of the SEC and every SEC member athletic program every week that our games arent available to a large portion of TV watchers nationwide.

Sailing the high seas. Streaming was once the good guy, freeing us from Cable TV. It has lived long enough to become the villan. On the plus side, it has made piracy great again!

In all seriousness, YTTV is a monthly service. Why are people that care not just moving to another service until it is sorted out.

For me, because YTTV meets all of my viewing needs (when Disney isn't being dicks) with the best UI in the business, and excellent reliability. Plus they are the only service with access to Sunday Ticket, which I subscribe to to watch my out of market NFL team. Plus the ability to watch 4 live games at once, split screen style.

No other service, or cable company, can match that.
