Who is picking Auburn 2nd or 3rd in the SEC? I've mostly seen 8-5 predictions.

Call me crazy but I think this is a huge part of making Malzahn's offense work well.

Defense, special teams, and OL are good enough that if we can get average QB play, we ought to be in good shape despite the schedule. A good defense will keep you in every game.

But it seems like people are making a lot of assumptions on the offensive side.

We have no fricking clue. 2 freshman QB’s and a below average OL returning.

It’s definitely a big piece of the puzzle. We probably aren’t playing for the NC in 2013 if not for Jay Prosch. Dude was a bulldozer.

Legitimately asking because I only saw two of Auburn’s games last year. Why is their defense expected to be elite?

We torched them on the ground for over 300 yards with a QB who couldn’t pass 5 yards downfield and I think most everyone knows how the Bama game went.

Did they have injuries or were those just complete standout games that happened to be unluckily cherry picked by my arbitrary schedule of watching other SEC games?

I think you’re down on AU when you shouldn’t be. They will surprise.

I have very little confidence in the offensive line and Gus Malzahn. There are some good players on offense, but if you can't block and your play calling is predictable or easy to decipher based on personnel, you aren't going to be consistent.

I’m an LSU fan. We wrote the book on what you just described.

Still, AU always seems to have surprise type years when the fan base as a whole is down on the team. By all accounts the defense will be elite and LSU knows better than most how much that can mask an inept offense.

#32 against the run last year.

#58 passing defense

#14 scoring defense

Return a lot. Pretty much every guy has significant expereince besides one true freshman who is supposed to be a stud at LB

Nix is very Fromm like as a QB with better legs. I'll be very surprised if he's not the QB. He was raised to be there and take charge. The RB's will be a solid group. The receivers are a group of sprinters. And he OL is an all 5th year senior, all returning starter bunch. It's almost like Gus waited til he got the pot right to take charge. They will run the ball and stop the run with that DL. That's a hard combo to beat.

A lot of good young talent....still inexperienced as a whole. If Whitlow stays healthy he can have a big year.
