Weird how it's always AT&T/DirecTV in these contractual pissing matches.
DOJ never should have allowed that merger to happen.
That said the networks are greedy bastards too and the business model of “bundling” a bunch of content nobody cares about is super annoying.
I’m torn.

It will be on about 10 mints. before kickoff. they are not going to commit customer suicide.

Moved to dish earlier this year and it’s a superior product. We moved a few months ago and directv said the dish would either be in the center of the front yard or center of the backyard. Overall I was a satisfied customers but that ain’t happening. Dish put it on the roof and has a better gameday experience with some of the features. Also no pissing matches as of late.
I had Dish for a few years, and you are right. It's easier to get scores, and switch from game to game. The interface is just better. The DVR is better all around and easier to navigate.
They do get into contract haggles from time to time, though.
The price kept going up, so we ended up switching to DirecTV.
Tip for you. If the price starts going up, call their cancellation service and tell them DirecTV has a deal, and more than likely Dish will match it. I wish I had done that now...but DirecTV is okay. just not quite as user friendly.

Dish just had a pissing contest with Fox Sports earlier this sumnmer.
If this shite happens I'll be cutting the cord.

If they frick me tomorrow I am cutting the cord.
That said, I hate att but do not blame them as they are trying to keep costs low. ESPN needs to further cut salaries and make it work without an increase. I would not pay any on air personality more than $250k a year no matter what.

I’m guessing ESPN’s advertisers won’t be too happy if they lose a huge chunk of their national audience for prime time college football games, so both sides have something to lose here.
That said, businesses forgive.. not sure consumers do. Seems to me that Disney has AT&T over the barrel here.

Stephen A. Smith is paid $10M/yr and they cut 100-200 other jobs to probably pay for that. It's a joke where their priorities are at.

I am considering it. I am an old guy, though, and change comes hard and slow.

These pissing contests happen every time and it's the same story.
1. Renewal for contract comes up
2. Nobody budges for a while
3. Deadline nears, networks put the message out "call in to xyz provider because they wont make a deal with us, it's their fault"
4. Right before, sometimes right after deadline, a deal is made between provider and network
The carriers get made out to be the bad guys but in reality you know Disney/ESPN is tring to the hike the prices way up and the carriers are giving push back on that, the network has all the leverage because the viewers just want their service to be uninterrupted.

Not a big deal unless you are posting on here while watching, but if you are doing that you aren't really watching anyway.

I've been spreading the advantages of YoutubeTV like gospel. The only people who are still on cable either don't know streaming services exist or don't want to have to deal with the slight logistical inconvenience of cutting the cord.

If ESPN goes dark on DTV, it will be the 3rd major outage on the provider in the last year. Our local NBC station was off for about 6 months, then it was ABC for 2 or 3 and now it looks like ESPN.
I'm one of the least violent people you'd ever want to meet, but I'm about to kick the bastages in the cajones.

They pretty much all go through it at different times. We see it scrolling on our locals all the time. I haven't been through it in a while but I don't feel immune to it. Even the Slings and Hulus are susceptible to it at times.

Can someone correct me if I missed something, but where has it been stated the outage could occur 'this' weekend? I've seen online where the previous agreement was signed on 9.30.14, at which time it would expire then if a deal wasn't agreed upon.
Is there news somewhere else stating differently?

My parents live in the middle of nowhere. No cable, no high speed internet access; if you want to watch anything but OTA channels you get Direct or Dish. Direct is going to lose ESPN channels, and Dish has basically given up trying to negotiate to offer regional sports networks and haven't had them for about a month and a half (thanks Sinclair Broadcasting). So either no Mizzou or no Cardinals/Blues. It's so ridiculous.

If you go to streaming, how do you DVR? Are there boxes that work with any platform?
Posted on 9/13/19 at 3:30 pm to burdman
If the provider can't get a deal with local stations they should be allowed to provide national feeds of those stations. That threat might make locals negotiate in better terms

YoutubeTV has a built in DVR. But you can only stream via website/chromecast, Xbox, etc.

I still think it's a ploy to create a sense of urgency to get people to call in now more than it actually going out this weekend. Could be wrong. We'll find out.
I have a YouTubeTV trial as a backup.
