What if everyone (not just the SEC) had their season opener determined by their previous season's final ranking?

Basically like an extension of bowl season, but starting where you left off. It would make for more interesting match ups (though I'm not complaining about Bama's openers). The first week in general is usually a couple good games and then nothing, and we're wondering how good is anyone really until like week 4-5. Sometimes longer.

This would immediately give you an idea of different conference strengths and imagine the games we'd get. And for once, preseason polls would actually have some kind of value.

I'd rather the league put a greater priority on SEC east teams playing more SEC west teams than forcing OOC nonsense down our throats. If I had my way, there would be ONE ooc game per season and the rest would be populated by cross-conference matchups.

I'm also a fan of 9 game schedule, but that's because I find it ridiculous to play only one more than half the conference.

Well it would be on Tennessee to try to fair the best they can so they don't end up with a scrub opener.

Teams will have more to lose in a bowl game than just some "conference pride" or whatever. They risk having a weaker schedule next season.

I would have 9 conference games, one G5, and two P5 matchups. I still love the under dogs and love to see what they can do. If the playoff ever expands to 8, I want the highest ranked G5 team to get an auto bid.

So you want the SEC to play 11 conference games? So schools like UGA,UF,USCe and UK will play 11 plus a big 5 OOC game(in state rivals)Sorry, the math doesn't quite work out, especially since ALL opponents would be home and home and some schools would be playing 6 or sometimes 5
home games...SEC schools cannot afford to cut out 2 home games...neither the towns or AD can afford the hit to their budgets.

I think the money the schools get from the SECN is more than enough to subsidize a full conference slate.

Fans at UGA and UF are not gonna put up with 5 game home schedule (it'll be sometimes 5 for UF and UGA since they play in Jax)

Don't kid yourself, gate receipts are still a big part of income for Athletic Depts AND their home towns.

Yeah 9 conference, 1 mandatory P5, and whatever else you want sounds reasonable to me.

It's the playoff era so schedule cupcakes at your own peril.

Yep,I think EVERY SEC school needs to play at least 1 big 5 OOC school every year...several play 0.

There are definitely cons to go along with the pros, but I like the idea. I'd say more of a rotating schedule where 1/4 of the conference plays a team from each of the power 5 conferences. Spread out evenly and rotating.
So you'd have 3-4 sec teams playing the BigX, Big12, PAC, and ACC. Same for the other conferences.
With a 4 team playoff it makes sense to get as clear of a big picture as possible.
It would take away from your ability to schedule at will though and put a top foe on the schedule if you desire, as well as potentially make you play one if you don't.

That's the equivalent of tOSU schedule.

Bert won 11 games often in the little 10, he had a damn strong team last year that would have finished at least 3rd in your conference, maybe higher.

How do you pair up teams & who is designated as the Home team?

I think going t 9 games in all P5 conferences , and a mandatory conf champ game will come soon. I also think schools will be rewarded( by comitee) by scheduling at least 2 ooc p5 schools. with one other 5/fcs games you should be able to get the 6-7 home games.

I think they should also make a bowl eligible requirement as a winning in conf record , s well as the existing winning/6-6 record against FBS teams.
