Slive, a lawyer by trade and a Jewish Yankee, had to convince southern folks in the SEC to stop bickering among themselves over violations and stop turning themselves in to the NCAA. (It's one of the reasons Slive couldn't stand Lane Kiffin during his time at Tennessee while yapping about a possible violation by Urban Meyer.) Coaches no longer dodge subpoenas at SEC Media Days.

Sure, there remain SEC violations and controversies, most notably the NCAA's high-profile investigation into Cam Newton's recruitment. But either nothing stuck or it resulted in penalties to SEC schools that could be overcome on the field.

CBS Sports

Why is this looked at as an accomplishment? IMO its a slap in the face to integrity

To be fair, a lot of what was turned in before was probably false and just sour grapes...it wasted a lot of time and energy at the schools and the NCAA. Legitimate things are still turned in it would appear, but the whining has mostly stopped.

But nothing Slive achieved was more important than having the SEC consistently avoid major NCAA penalties.

How many schools were under some sort of probation at one point under Slive? 10-12? This article is a whole bunch of mad and spin. Hell there are multiple examples of finger pointing during his reign as well

It wasn’t that long ago, i feel like we all remember what a loose cannon Lane was at that point. You never knew what would come out of his mouth. That would have made any commissioner/boss of his nervous.

Some things are wild goose chases, but a lot of it was legitimate too. The way the SEC handled the Cam Newton case was an embarrassment to the conference.

I'm not one I'm just pointing out that these people put money above integrity. People like you freeze and lane kiffin May be banned from this conference because of having a big mouth. My bet is you freeze and the stuff he did is not frowned upon but what is frowned upon is getting caught

WTF? An L8U fan talking about “integrity” vs “money?” What irony this is...over on Tr the entire L8U fan base is congratulating the latest quitter on the LSU team for choosing a yet-to-be established pro payoff over his teammates in the bowl game.

The Tr mob is shouting down anyone who thinks the trend at LSU is horrible and that it is happening during the season now. Devin White is being criticized for PLAYING...yet here you are...tapping about “integrity” vs “money?” Good god you corn dogs are conflicted.

I guess this is what makes him a scum bucket that helped cover up rampant cheating. This is ridiculous.

Have you noticed the success of the SEC over the past 2 decades? Let's be honest here, integrity went out the door a long, long time ago. This is basically a professional sports league and if you want to be competitive at this level you have to be willing to bend the rules. Take 2 examples:

1. Arkansas. With Long as our AD our focus has been recruiting good kids with integrity who make it to class and don't get into any trouble... results: Arkansas has its worst season of all time and over the past 5 years we have more or less been pathetic.

2. Ole Piss. Cheats like hell, strippers involved all sorts of crazy stuff... results: 10 win season, ranked number 3 twice in 2 years, 4 straight bowl games including the Sugar Bowl. NCAA penalties amount to slight slap on the wrist that continue to be removed.

So as a fan, what would you rather have? 10 win seasons, bowl games, destroying your rival.... or be like Arkansas with 1 SEC win in 2 years, total embarrassment to the SEC and in a position where it will take years to recover.

Think about it...

Well, the present Commissioner while coming off as a nice guy is not progressive in any way.
1- While facing more and more empty seats....wants to leave the schedule as it is...
2- Has the Conference evaluate it’s Officiating and finds that ALL calls are correct... so no change needed there as well.

I honestly feel that if the “ Things are fine as they are” isn’t changed and soon... the SEC is headed to a bad place...You have to stay ahead of the competition... In making your product more attractive... expansion,etc...

He seems to be more interested in basketball and that to this point isn’t turning out so well...
