quote:

"How ABSURD - in Louisiana the Governor wants to change the name of the LSU basketball court that was named DALE BROWN COURT in a dedication ceremony about a year ago," Vitale wrote on Twitter. "This is wacky. Dale deserved the honor & it finally was affirmed & now UGLY POLITICS (are) involved."

quote:

Brando also claims that Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards and LSU President William F. Tate are at the forefront in the apparent attempt to change the court's name.

"You don't name anything for someone and then tell them, 'No, we're going to change this just because,' " Brando said to WAFB.

Concur. And honestly even though Dale is the best MBB coach in LSU history, that's not really saying much. Left the program in probation and never won a title or anything. Best he ever did with Shaq was get to the 2nd round. Not really court naming material. At least Gunter is a Naismith HOFer, Dale never will be. I don't care if Gunter is added, I don't even know why the court needed to be named after anyone at all tbh. If Mulkey ever wins one she had more of a claim than either

Yes, the whole Lester Earl situation, but Brown had numerous run-ins with the NCAA before that, it was just the one where the NCAA could finally get him.

Also Bill Arnsparger didn't get along with him and so Brown, depending on who you ask, was one of the reasons he left to go be the AD at Florida and hire Spurrier a few years later which ushered in the worst decade of LSU football in its history.

LSU went to the Final Four in 1981 & 1986 under Dale Brown.

Though with Shaq and Chris Jackson LSU did under achieve in the early 1990’s. Of course we know the NCAA Tournament is a crap shoot so that is not necessarily a surprise.

This is what our governor is hosting lunches about these days. He hosted certain members of the board of supervisors at the governors mansion to let them know he wanted to add sue gunters name to the court.

I guess in about 10-15 years we will have to rename the court again to Brown-Gunter-Mulkey Court.

This is nothing more than virtue signaling from a Democrat. That’s all they can do.

Is it really an honor at all if they can just take it away arbitrarily or force it to be shared?

It's fricking dumb to put either one on the court.

Neither won any titles. Embarrassing

The Tiger stadium should be named after that legend footballer and pure sex machine Tuscaloosa. He owns it. And the Golden Girls.
And name the basketball arena after Harry Rex Vonner. A great American.

He's right, but I'm sure he'll get a sternly worded letter from the ESPN higher ups. I don't care if he doesn't work there anymore, he'll still get that letter.

When Tate is through at LSU, that place will be known as the bastion of wokeness.

I don't care what LSU names their basketball court, but yes this is clearly political and clearly stupid.

The whole thing is ridiculous

Add in the fact that the governor’s wife pushed John Bell to hold a meeting at the governor’s mansion to push Sue’s name getting in the court and it all is embarrassing

Especially since Kim Mulkey is going to achieve what neither of them did in a way shorter time

The only thing ridiculous about it is that they already announced it. These are conversations that should have been had over a year ago.
