Deboer is an absolute slam dunk hire in retrospect

So many hot names in the coaching world currently being mostly flops at their new destination, DeBoer is straight up killing it and doing EVERYTHING he can to succeed here. The difference between wins and losses now is just athletes and play calls. We got the jimmies and joes (minus the quality line depth tho) and a top tier staff and players that fit the system.
Yeah he hasn’t won anything yet but shite, Kirby hasn’t won a damn thing outside of some meaningless, hollow SECCGs either since 2022. Greg Byrne was cookin. Very glad to have DeBoer here and he seems to have acclimated the southeast pretty well.

Kiffin would have been a disaster.
Lanning not doing so hot.
That FSU hc is terrible.
And the other usual suspects would have been horrible hires.

Start contributing to the program, because Texas is going to come hot and heavy with a bag after this season.

Kirby should cut Todd Monken a check every year.

Glad people are finally realizing this. I say it all the time, he didn't inherit a lambo like everyone was misled to believe. He inherited remnants of a team that was one play away from going 8-4. And when I say "remnants", I mean he didn't inherit a single skill player from the previous season. No Downs, Kool-Aid, Burton, Bond, Turner, Key, Latham, Eboigbe, Arnold, etc. I mean, the top three players on his 2024 roster were two Washington transfers and a true freshman.
It was stupid to think he could take the leftovers of that 2023 squad and win 40-0 every week.

Watching Penn State, Michigan, USC, Oregon, Aggies, LSU all shite the bed...yes it does appear we made one of the best hires.
I don't see KDB leaving for a bag. They all make so much money anyway. We have some financial disadvantages...but he's still thehead ball coach of the greatest program in the history of the sport.
That'd be hard to walk away from.
Franchione (RIP) did it...but he saw how bad it was about to get. And I'm sure he lived to regret it anyway.

Interested in who next OC will be 'when' Grubb leaves down the road.

Inject that into my veins, Mr. Kerry Goode

I was one of the few defending Greg. Man always wanted to hire Deboer. I was right about Lanning and Dabo as well. I still day Jim Leonhard and Vince Kehres should've gotten looks but Bama is allergic to hiring assistant coaches to be hc.

Then Greg will hire another great coach out of nowhere.

Greg has done a tremendous job, but I don't know who this person is. We have, I think, one of the best coaches in the game right now. I would really like to keep him.

Best hire we could have possibly made. Remember he is following the best coach of all time. He is doing pretty darn well

What was profound was the belief in KDB from this team and staff is unshakable.
We saw in Tuscaloosa when Shane Beamer tried this with Dylan Stewart and he was basically a man on an island with everyone else watching.
When KDB did it and Dijon tried what Dylan did, quickly a teammate came, staff came and they made sure everyone knew the mission and no one tried to overstep the authority. All of that builds character.
I have been on teams with both situations and the later with KDB shows we are very different from the last two seasons and I expect responses over the next weeks to show that.

I do agree with OP but I do question some of the hires CKB has made. I’m still not sold on Grubb and Womack. Moreso Grubb. Womack has improved a lot but I still think we lack that killer instinct like we used to have on Defense. I still think we need a more competent OC

The defense finished top10 in scoring D in year 1 and Top10 in Total D in year 2.
That’s the fewest points, least yards and most turnovers since the 2017 season.
Yes, the numbers aren’t great right now, but besides FSU they have played well enough to win and have created several turnovers and scored points of their own.
The biggest thing that has plagued them more than anything else are balls thrown up to whoever #5 is covering.
It led to 3 scores against FSU and 10 points vs Georgia (3rd and 17 and 3rd and 22 and he mugged the WR both times instead of looming back to find the ball).
After the UK game, people were comparing this years defense to 2016. I don’t think their performance vs MSU (6 sacks), USCe (3 sacks, 4 turnovers), and then the 20 points they allowed to Georgia should change people’s perspective that drastically.
They were 4th in country vs the run going into the UGA game and held them to just 49 yards in the 1st half on the ground.
What has really affected the defense are the losses of J Hill, Zulu, and T Green, along with sticking with #5.
Offenses throw at him on third down and he’s going to be in perfect t position but never turn around and allow it to get caught or grab the WR and halfway attempt to turn around.
He has incredible measurables and I personally wish they would look at him as a (Free) Safety.
Thompkins and Pierre are having to play every snap of the game, which is why the pass rush when only rushing 4 hasn’t been the same.
There were plays vs Georgia with #90 at the 3-tech (Nose or Shade he’s solid). 94 as the 5-tech (to give Thompkins a 2 play “rest”) and #14 as the Edge….they got GASHED all 3 times that combo when in the field.
I am concerned about UTjr this weekend.
Heupel will take half a dozen vertical shots at #5.
CKW has defended them extremely well
the past 2 seasons (forced 3 turnovers and a shutout at halftime last time they were in Knoxsville).
But with T Green out (losing Beaman for the season was also a major blow), and Pierre/Thompkins getting worn down the longer the game goes is not ideal.
Last year Pierre had 3 sacks in the game, but he was only playing 50% of the snaps, and was brought in on passing situations.
I think this is the toughest game Bama has left.
Whatever it takes, just get out of there with a “W”

Don't mean to pile on here, but I've said this before:
DeBoer's system is a motion-heavy, space-creating pro-spread (and Air Raid hybrid).
Young QBs benefit from the structure and high-percentage nature of reads once they internalize it, but the best fits are intelligent, accurate processors. And because there is the potential for autonomy at the LOS, it requires someone who can operate with rhythm and poise without forcing hero plays.
The high-volume passing, precise route timing, and pre-snap diagnosis aspects are why someone like Jalen Milroe would've never been recruited into Kalen's system, even though he was an elite physical athlete. His game was just never going to be that.
Drake Maye decommitting and then Julian Sayin transferring set our whole QB cycle back about three or four years, and DeBoer's first season was hamstrung by that (along with the physical makeup of the offensive line).

I'm glad the OP posted this. I been saying it since year 1. DeBo has won HUGE at EVERY stop he's had and at Alabama he has resources most places only dream about. Can Bama match Oregon, Texas, or Indiana resources? No, we can't but history and brand means something.
It was clear in the GA game that Kalen Deboer was no longer the coach that was trying to continue the Alabama juggarnaut under Nick Saban. He's built his own program, HIS PROGRAM and it's a force to be reconed with.
While all the sidewalks were bleeding from their vaginas as players hit the portal, DeBo and Morgan were quietly filling the gaps with transfers where needed, retaining who needed to be retained and recruiting like a mofo.
I honestly wouldn't trade him for anybody in the country. Not even Kirby.

Everyone makes bad hires.
Look at who the greatest ever hired his last seven seasons here. It's the main reason he didn't win more with the talent we had. Bill O'Brien, Pete Golding, the pathetic OL ex-head coach who cratered our OL development, etc.
