How is Mike Bobo at developing QB’s? We all know we have a guy with a lot of natural ability but needs some help. Also how good of a recruiter is he? Thanks.

If he goes to Aub it depends on the personnel you have onboard. Best season was 2012 with Aaron Murray.

Your oline will need to be retooled to play his type of offense. Should see an improvement in Nix if he hasn’t developed too many bad habits from bad line play. He did good with serviceable QBs after Murray left as well. You will need some WR’s to develop to help Nix in that offense. Depending on how far the line needs to go to run his offense Tank could have a field day with a serviceable passing attack.

Can Newton - Bob told him to play TE
Nick Marshall - Defensive Back
DeShaun Watson - Didn’t even attempt to recruit

That being said there will be the occasional game where he looks like a genius! But against good competitors or pivotal games his offense will look tired and predictable.

He was better suited as a DB.

Pretty damn good.

With elite talent, he can build an elite offense with scheme.

At Auburn? Ehhhh. OL play alone would crash and burn against every top 10 opponent.

I think he did a good job while at Georgia. I liked him as an OC, too. My biggest question would be have offenses changed so much since he left and can he keep up? He might can, but sometimes OCs and DCs get so invested in what they learned coming up they struggle to change an appreciable amount.

He also seemed to recruit well.

Honestly? I think he would be a solid hire, but not great. Some fans and players will love him and some will hate him. I loved him when he was at Georgia, but I'm not sure I would want him to come back right now.

He is inconsistent at best, I'll never forgive him for not running todd gurley at the goal line vs south Carolina...

Didn’t Mike have a pretty good QB and team up in Colorado or am I thinking of someone else?

David greene, dj shockley, stafford, and murray were all coached by him. Even hutson Mason and to a lesser extent joe cox were serviceable

Moronic take. We offered DW his junior year of HS at Gainesville. By then, he'd already developed a strong bond with the Clemson coaches, who offered him as a freshman.

He's a damn good QB coach, at least for QBs that fit his offense.

Not that moronic...you are right Clemson got there first, but because of that Richt laid off him for the most part.

Kirby would have "bulldawg'd" it and possibly stolen Watson away if he was recruiting for us back then. Clemson had not reach pinnacle status and the Dawgs were coming off a huge season in 2012 and a decent 2013.

Thanks everyone! According to one of the mods on a pay board, the OC will pretty much run Harsin scheme, a lot of complex routes, over the middle and a lot passes to tight ends and backs. We’re not close to being loaded with talent like y’all but We have a couple of young receivers who are showing some promise and a 6’7 270 TE we’re pretty excited about, all freshman. We’re hoping to get some oline help from the portal. Those guys just didn’t want to play in Gus’s offense. Harsin runs the ball a lot and is know for good oline development.

I'm not excited about it, but do his pass plays have 1 WR run a route and the rest block? Are his TEs nothing more then Tackles wearing a number in the 80s? Does he line a RB at QB to take the snap and run right into the center? If the answer to any of those are No, then it is an improvement and I can get on board. Sounds like the worst that could happen is Nix finally gets some competent coaching, he helps recruit other good players, then leaves.

How many years was he OC for a team that didn't win a single road game against a rival on the road? How many games did his offenses look completely lost with no gameplan like we did vs UGA, Bama, or hell even Miss State this year? If he is only successful with talented players, then we will have to get them. We have several spots to fill needs right now, and the transfer portal could help immediately with the rules of sitting out a year gone.

At least Bobo calls his own plays, unlike Lebby, or anyone we have had at OC in 8 years.

Not completely sold on him, but there are worse hires that could be made

This is probably true.Kirby is obviously a more tenacious recruiter.

FWIW Watson was closer to signing with Auburn than he ever was UGA

UGA wasnt this talented under Bobo. We had weapons. We didnt have depth at WR or on the OL.

The OL is the part that kept us from being dominant, imo.

Richt brought FSU’s blocking scheme to UGA. He inherited Donnan’s o-line and then never really prioritized the position again. It showed up in big games under the Richt regime. Great skill players soft on the o and d lines. If Gardner is there the D line should be OK. The o-line coach hire will be very important considering Gus hasn’t recruited well at that position since Robinson bombed early in his career.
