Interesting screen from RollTide1987's youtube of the 2006 Independence Bowl vs Oklahoma State. Shula had been fired, Kines was coaching the bowl game. Saban wouldn't be hired until about a week later.

George, the scary thing to think about from that list, is what happens if Coach Saban does not take the position? I don't think Coach Gruden comes in, leaving you with these other folks. You guys might have been better off playing that season without a head coach

We would have hired Paul Johnson or Jim Grobe. And it would have been a disaster.
I don't remember ever reading about Jeff Tedford during the search.

That Tennessee fan who trolled their fanbase on the message boards with his "done deal" posts was awesome. Even when the press conference with Butch was announced he was saying it was a red herring
