2000 will find another team.
And thats the musical chairs part of it. Players need to hire an agent who can “explore” any teams interested before they go portal.
Going to portal without an actual home is really dumb unless you are great player. Sure, there are gems to find but its dicey.
You need a full time staffer maybe more just to keep up with portal.

Don’t know if it’s been posted, but Marshall withdrew from their bowl game because of not enough players
So that costs their AD if they don't get the bowl payout.
Absolute bullshite.

Many of these players will not find homes and basically threw away their scholly…
Eventually there has to come a point, you would think, they will wise up and realize they are better off staying where they are at, develop, and wait their turn..,

How is that possible? College sports are broken

It isn't increasing parity so much as decreasing the quality of play across the board.
I don’t get this. Is it because the 2 usual suspects in the conference didn’t dominate again and again and again? So that’s decreasing quality of play when every game isn’t a cupcake for these teams?
Who would have watched a bama Vandy game or a Georgia ole miss game in the past with interest?
I welcome the change.

College football has become the craziest shite I've ever seen. They have completely screwed up a great thing.

So Alabama fans will naturally be pissed off because they aren't able to stack talent like they have in the past.
But there is a real problem with free transfer. There are probably a shite-ton of shitbags that have self-declared as agents in the last few years that are pumping players full of bullshite about what they could be worth if they entered the portal.

A third of them will never play again.

Isn’t that equal to 200 signing classes?

How many were not optional?

Exactly. Most teams have to reduce 10-15 spots. Some teams are doing it early to help their players latch on with other teams (opposite reason of what people are saying about some teams losing so many to portal).
And other teams will have to get there but have bowl games and waiting or just slow playing it to see what pops up in portal.

NIL and portal was inevitable. Universities have no one to blame but themselves. Athletic programs spending like drunken sailors on facilities, coaching payrolls. Conference/TV revenue increased and athletic departments trying to find new ways to spend every dollar except compensate the athletes. It was only a matter of time before those producing the product wanted compensation.
On the plus side it has leveled the playing field a bit with new schools contending. No longer NFL of the 70’s with same couple of teams contending each years.
With all that said, they must find a balance between old student athlete model and current paid mercenaries.

Changing coaches and systems hurts a player’s development. When 43% of starting quarterbacks are transfer players, 30% of them first year players, play will be degraded.
A QB that comes in and has one spring and fall camp before starting will simply not be as good as if it were his second or third season practicing the same plays with the same receivers.
It is one of the main reasons coaching changes cause so much disruption, you have players having to learn new systems, new terminology, and figure out the chemistry of the team. Now, 25-30% of players essentially have coaching changes every year.
So yes, it has hurt player development and thus it has hurt overall level of play.

3600 from FBS/FCS. That’s damn near half of all d1 football. Seriously, what the frick

Start turning over 20-30%+ of the workforce at your job every single year and let everyone know how things go.
There is no continuity in the system, there is no real chemistry, there is no depth developed by a given program, and there is more politics than ever. It degrades the product and play on the field.
It also makes coaches question whether or not high school players are worth the investment if they aren't going to hang around longterm.

Exactly... An agent may want a cut and encourage a player to walk, but will also be the first to stop answering the phone if no one is interested in paying NIL money on top of a scholarship.
The portal only really benefits the top players who can command NIL deals. The rest are at serious risk of being exploited and/or misguided.

NIL is like divorce. Someone wakes up unhappy one day and its time to jump ship without any trying to work it out or toughness.
