All of this old Spurrier stuff just reminds me of all the stories old Kingsport people would tell about him in high school.

He was every bit as cocky, brash and awesome as you would expect. He used to shoot 25 footers just because he could, before the 3 point line.

This would be my 2nd favorite story of the young season. Sam Washington from NC A&T being #1

Spurrier gave Science Hill a pretty big chunk of change to build their new stadium if I remember correctly

$1 million is the number I was told.

Science Hill and D-B are good state-level programs, but they will never produce a substantial amount of FBS players until the demographics of Northeast TN change. Malik Foreman was a legend up here and just a so-so player on some bad UT teams. Jason Witten is obviously the standout from Elizabethton, but that's really just proof that amazing athletes can come from relative obscurity.

Awww snip! I was filming that game in 2007(?) for Charter.

FINALLY, Science Hill is going to beat DB...

Nope, guy kicks a 87 yard field goal as time basically expired to win the game...

It was an awesome game though and being on the sidelines with a huge clunky camera was surreal.

Good to know we have something in common! Haven't been home in 5 years.

This is now a Steve Spurrier appreciation thread

Eh, I wouldn't say he was a legend. He was a good player.

But your overall point is correct - there is a reason Tennessee doesn't have a roster full of those kids.

I may have been repeating too much local radio hyperbole .

They're so desperate to get players on at UT that they make anyone with a chance seem like the Second Coming.

DB has been pretty bad relative to historical norms the last 5-10 years, so things may have changed in terms of regarding players like that. From 2000-2010 DB put 3 guys in the NFL (Coty Sensabaugh, Daniel Kilgore, Gerald Sensabaugh) and a host of others at P5 schools and won 90% of their games. Now they get blown out by Greeneville and Oak Ridge on the reg. Sad times at J Fred.

Yea I graduated in 2003 - don't go back a whole lot. Have fond memories though. Basketball games in the Topper Palace were as good as high school sports get.
