The better question is would they trade it for Saban never leaving LSU?

Now that is the more compelling question.

It's always a rough time in the state of Louisiana.

Sure. The Saints are meaningless.

Little sisters of the poor would have beaten one of the most overranked Irish teams ever (which is saying a lot).

I ask this question to people all the time. If there is no Alabama, LSU is looking at probably 3 minimum natties since Miles came. 07, 11, 12, and then there’s no telling what could have happened from there based on the recruiting battles we’ve lost to Bama since then.

A lot of people still stick with the Saints, it was a huge deal for the city and state, but as a pretty mild Saints fan and a third generation alum I pick the Tigers.

But not exactly the question posed by the OP. The question assumes no Saban in the SEC period. That means no Saban to pull LSU out of the abyss that was the 1990s. While it's possible someone else could have managed, it's definitely not a given that LSU would ever have reached the very top without the jumpstart in the football culture and recruiting at LSU provided by Saban. Personally, I'd think LSU would have been closer to the UGA-level of always pretty good but never quite getting over the hump than Bama's streak of title runs over the previous decade and a half if Saban had never come to Baton Rouge. But that's just an opinion.

Uh, no. Reading and comprehending can be your friends but only if you use them.

probably in 11, but why are you considering 2012 a guaranteed NC? You would still have to play UGA in SEC CG which would for sure not be a guaranteed win and what makes you think you could beat ND like Alabama did. ND wasn't the no.2 team but they were at the very least a top 15 team.

First off, 11 is not a probably, it’s a guarantee. Bama was the only team that could beat LSU that year, which is a compliment to Bama, not an insult.

As for 12, you’re right, UGA was not an auto win, which is why I say probably 3. Maybe they don’t beat UGA, that’s a fair point. But ND was not a top 15 team that year. If you don’t think LSU steamrolls them if they beat UGA (a toss up) then you’re not being realistic. Had UGA, won, they’d have done the same.

The thing is, you have to think about what Les could have done without Saban to challenge him on the recruiting field. It would have been us getting #1 classes every year with no one to truly challenge us. Even with Les’s old school offense, we would have out talented everyone, just like Bama does now. So 2015, 16, and 17 are all extremely probable playoff appearances. And we’d have won at least one if not two of them.

frick no. Not even a Saints fan.

All the losses aren't going to matter when Saban gets to the end of his career and starts sucking. We sent Bear out with a loss when he was too old to coach anymore, we'll do the same to Saban.
