It shows that second-rate teams that play in second-rate conferences against second-rate competition have been ranked in the AP poll more often overall relative to very excellent teams from the toughest conference in all of college football the SEC.

I mean only two SEC teams make the top ten, Alabama and LSU.

More a reflection of where most of the sports media resided through the decades. Heismans and NCs included.

Nebraska has a long history but they have been trending down ever since they stopped playing in Texas several times a year. Their recruiting shifted to an area where the other teams in their conference are significantly more popular.

LSU is going to be better than many people think this year. Their new Offensive Coordinator is going to spark some points and historically speaking, LSU has fielded some of the best defensive teams in my lifetime.

LSU is a blueblood at this point in history and Nebraska is about to go on probation, If the NCAA stays in power which is in doubt atm.

Yeah we’re not a bad football program all-time honestly. Of course there was a big drop in the 90’s when we joined the SEC.

Just sucks that the younger generation of fans basically equate us with Vandy now. Past decade has been brutal.

Someone should do something where they calculate the percentage of times you were eligible for the poll and were in it.

Some of these schools like Florida State didn’t have a football program in earnest until the 50s.

Man, LSU must have made one hell of a run since 2000 to make it all the way up to number 10 in 20 years.

Imagine where LSU would be if they played Michigan, Texas or OU's schedule...

Yeah, check LSU's record vs Nebraska (OU's schedule)

Yeah, they've only played 6 times in 100+ years. May as well check OU's record vs LSU next.

So check OU's record vs Nebraska The juggernaut Nebraska, not today's Nebraska. And Texas every year, also a great program historically (4 titles). We battled against actual national championship winning schools and won 7 ourselves.

Yeah, champ, it's easy to be a "national championship winning school" in conferences filled with superweights like Baylor, Colorado, Texas Tech, TCU, Iowa State, Kansas, KSU, etc. Even Clemson lulz at such a schedule.

Also, again, check LSU's record vs OU. Hell, if we're checking records, let's find a common opponent both schools have played regularly throughout history - like Aggy. I see LSU has amassed a 12 win lead in the series while OU's lead is 7 - with half of OU's wins over A&M occurring under Bob Stoops. Sad.

You must be young. The SEC wasn't that good before they started playing primarily black players, and that wasn't that long ago. Totally different beast from the SEC you see today. Back then a lot of NFL players were coming from HBCU's. Ask an old Bama fan about USC rolling down there and molly whopping the Tide. I mean, Bama still had 63 white players on their football team in 1995. Then look at 2019. For a lot of years, those SEC schools were sitting in recruiting hotbeds but not using it.
