They're only 2 games ahead of us and Petersen retired.

In 1964 Ole Miss was the #1 team in the SEC and the #7 in America with AP poll appearances behind Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, OU, and USC. Damn.

Those yankees headquartered in NYC always had a bias against southern teams

They went 3-1 last season and would've played for a conference title but for Covid rules. They would have also been favored in at least two more of their regular season games had they not been canceled. They return their QB and almost all of their pass catchers and tacklers.
They're not slouches and Gata has to win at least three more games than them to take the lead, meaning if UW wins 7, Gata has to win ten and if UW wins 8, Gata has to win eleven. I just don't think it's likely given that they're likely to be favored in at least eight games. I expect both teams to win around 9 games.

It's either LSU or Penn State at #9 and #10.
I give us the edge due to titles, but I agree. Both great programs.

Arkansas was #18 all time as recently as 2013

Arkansas pushed hard from the 60'-90s then fell off by the time John L Smith torpedoed us.

"They won 3 games last season!" Seriously?

Fair.
Winispedia comparison between Penn State and LSU
Penn State has considerably more wins (902 to 817), but half of LSU's national championships. Both programs are similar in terms of their bowl games, bowl wins, all-Americans, NFL draft picks, and weeks in the AP poll.
Penn State leads the all-time series 2-0

That site penalizes Pedo St because they were independent until 1993.

We've had some shitty posters and alters show up recently. There's nothing to get mad about.

They only played four games last season.

Go back and look at some of those old Penn State schedules, lots of 10 or 11 win seasons with maybe one ranked opponent all year.

P
I would probably rank Penn State ahead of LSU because Penn State has a lot more wins and four undefeated seasons without a national championship (1968, 1969, 1973, and 1994).
But you're right, to an extent. In 1968 and 1969, Penn State played two undefeated teams (cumulatively), both in bowl games. In 1974, however, they played four ranked teams and beat them all. The same is true in 1977, when they were 3-0 against ranked teams, and 1978, when they were 3-1 against ranked teams.

I tend to think it’s similar to the situation with Texas where if our regular schedule had so many cupcakes for so long then we’d probably have 50-75 more wins easily, but it is what it is.

For sure. I've been posting about some win totals of some of bluebloods lately and I'll summarize it.
187 of Tennessee's 400 SEC wins, or 39.5%, come against Kentucky, Vandy, and State, all of whom have losing all-time records.
231 of Oklahoma's 917 all-time wins, or 25%, come against Iowa State, Kansas, and Kansas State, all of whom have losing all-time records. This figure is even more startling when you add in Bedlam (321/917, or 35%). Although Okie Lite has an all-time winning record, they are a very average program and have the 76th most wins in history.
