What did ESPN do this time?

This is what it is about. Football is a passion, family is who you are.
No doubt anyone would trade shutting down your favorite team's program to losing a child at a young age.
Peace to the Douglas family at this difficult time of mourning.

Former SI editor made a post on the Insider board that basically said "Bama OT found dead. This opens up a spot for five star Kouandjio", within minutes of the death being confirmed.

Sad,Sad thing. Aaron Douglas was a part of a Maryville Tn, High school team that never lost a game ( I believe that's right) in his career and won 4 state titles. Daddy was an OT under Johnny Majors and played in the NFL. Mother was an AA under Pat Summitt. Phillip Fulmer went to the wedding and "GAVE DAVID AND KAYLA" a scholarship if they ever had a son.
As a TE he had to battle to keep his weight down and when Lane Kiffin came on board, he let Douglas get up to about 290 and he made Freshman AA. But his ankle was injured before the bowl game with Virgina Tech and he was in a walking boot. After the bowl game, Douglas was arrested on campus for punching out the window of his girlfriend's car. His weight began to drop, he wanted to give up football and become a "RAPPER". With his weight plummeting, and his strange behavior, word spread about possible "PAIN KILLER USE"...He transferred to a Juco in Arizona and was recruited by Alabama. Got a DUI over the Christmas Holidays back home in Knoxville/Maryville.
Was pushing for a starting job at left tackle at Alabama and was supposedly getting his life back together. Such a sad, sad day. My heart goes out to his family. Drugs/Alcohol are "The Devil". Such a wasted life..

Drugs/Alcohol are "The Devil"
"If when you say whiskey you mean the oil of conversation, the philosophic wine, the ale that is consumed when good fellows get together, that puts a song in their hearts and laughter on their lips, and the warm glow of contentment in their eyes; if you mean Christmas cheer; if you mean the stimulating drink that puts the spring in the old gentleman's step on a frosty, crispy morning; if you mean the drink which enables a man to magnify his joy, and his happiness, and to forget, if only for a little while, life's great tragedies, and heartaches, and sorrows; if you mean that drink, the sale of which pours into our treasuries untold millions of dollars, which are used to provide tender care for our little crippled children, our blind, our deaf, our dumb, our pitiful aged and infirm; to build highways and hospitals and schools, then certainly I am for it."
- Noah "Soggy" Sweat, April 4, 1952; delivered to a joint session of the Mississippi legislature.
If you live by the sword, you risk dying by the sword. Tons of college students, myself included, abuse alcohol and illegal and prescription drugs heavily on a regular basis. We are well aware of the dangers of these substances. We don't need to be vilified, nor do we deserve to. Let us live our lives the way we see fit.

looking at this pic makes me sad. he had full 60+ more years of life ahead of him. probably not a bad person at all, just misunderstood. still VFL, never got an opportunity to play a single down for the nemesis Alabama.

My good friend hung out with AD 3 or 4 times since he has been in Tuscaloosa and said that he was a very nice, personable guy. Such a shame.

That's sounds all well and good but, who's there to take you "COLLEGE KIDS" to rehab, get you out of jail, help and try to mend a poor mother's broken heart? I know "BOYS WILL BE BOYS" and there are things that go on when we are young that we all look back on and say "WTF?..But these young and old people alike are abusing these pain pills and it's killing them. I've been to four funerals and watched 5 young men, all in college all from good families, ruin promising athletic careers, flunk out of college and end up in rehab and half way houses because "THEY WERE LIVING THEIR LIVES THE WAY THEY SAW FIT"..But they weren't worried about somebody picking up the pieces were they..It a damn crying shame is what it is..A damn crying shame..

Prayers sent for the Douglas family. So tragic to lose someone so young.

ANOTHER young life over far too soon. The drug problem is way way out of hand and it seems no one,not elected officials clergy or leaders of any kind want to address this much any more.
The answer? I wish I knew but somehow we have to try to get a handle on this.

The problem is when this abuse ropes others in, as it so often does. It ceases to be about you alone any longer.

You dont even know exactly how he died. Also, its not as big of a problem as you are making it out to be. Some college kids just get carried away with drugs/alcohol, and then before they know it, they are hooked. Its been happening for decades, and it will continue to happen. If anyone needs to "address" it, its the parents of the kids that form addictions. I see it all the time up here. Parents just continue to give and give and give their kids money without really knowing what they are doing with that money.

A friend who has known Douglas since high school said the "PROBLEM" started with shoulder surgery, then another, then two ankle surgeries...That was one reason he was away from the Knoxville area.."NEW PLAYGROUND, NEW PLAYMATES THING". Yeah, its' a bad problem. Painkiller addiction is taking over the country. It's bad, because once a person gets hooked, he's battling it the rest of his life. And it's not just young people. Addiction knows no age limit..Sad, Sad, day for me who watched someone's career so closely..
