Dodd hated Bryant and thought GT would be the southern version of ND.

Lol
Florida is in zero way a better program than us. Not even remotely close after Monday.

LSU is in blue blood territory
No not really
Bluebloods would be those Top 4, IMO... Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Notre Dame. Those were the Top 4 (in a different order) at the conclusion of the 1960s and they are still the Top 4 today.
The next category... I would call the "Elites" would be #5 USC down to #17 Auburn. There is a larger gap between #17 Auburn and #18 Michigan State as there is between #17 Auburn and #10 Florida State. That's really where the drop-off to middle-tier programs starts.
Also worth noting is every program in the Top 17 has won a National Title since 1986..... only program outside the Top 17 "Elites" to have won titles since 1986 are #22 Washington, #27 Georgia Tech, and #31 Colorado.

Yes, Auburn was 12th just a few years ago. Just about always neck and neck with georgia
Auburn actually peaked in the 1980s when they were #14... they held onto that spot all the way through the 1990s, fell back to #16 by the end of the 2000s, but moved back up again to #15 after the 2010 title.
They've now fallen back to #17 thanks to Clemson and Georgia passing them by.
The good news for Auburn is they are as low as they could possibly go for many, many years. It would take a "Clemson" type run for Michigan State to get close anytime soon, and that's not happening. If Auburn can just get a Top 10 finish soon, they'll pass Tennessee. They are still within striking distance of Clemson also since Clemoson just passed Auburn a couple years ago.

quote:This is true about him hating Bryant, but he never wanted to end the rivalry. He pulled Tech out of the SEC when the SEC ruled that all conference members had to play each other 2 times every 10 years. The ND of the South business was their justification for doing it. Very self-delusional to say the least. I guarantee you that almost any Tech grad that graduated pre 1966 would jump at the chance for GT to get back into the SEC.

Nah he wanted to stop playing Bama after the dirty hit game in 61 or 62.

Florida has 3 National Titles since 1996 to our one. That is the difference that quite frankly be ignored. That's the only reason its so close. But we are a season away from passing them.

Arkansas is surrounded by plenty of states with talent. The main issue is not enough talent within the state.

Joining the SEC will not help Missouri - I mean they made the back-to-back SECCGs but honestly, I don't see them getting back for awhile... and I mean AWHILE.

It's weird when SCar fans talk shite about Mizzou considering it only took y'all 3 seasons in the SEC to jump them.
Like other fanbases in our tier, they're jealous. I understand, because it's human nature.

The 60s was a very important decade for college football. It was the beginning of modern football by historians. Arkansas was terrible in the decades prior to the 60s. Unlike schools like Bama, they were never a powerhouse and Arkansas just didn't care. But Frank Broyles changed that. So from the 60s to the 80s is when Arkansas was a bove average. However the prior decades and after hurt the overall rankings.

Ive never seen "elite" being used. If so it was someone trolling tigers here.
I have said many times over that A&M is a top 20 program, all-time, when people talk trash. Most of you have zero clue about the program because we're relatively new to the SEC
A top 20 program is good. Top 10-15 is great. Top 5 is elite

They're borderline "Vandy-bad" but after one mediocre season they're here to tell us just how bad Mizzou is
