What matters more, wins or losses? That's the beauty of every other sport, wins matter.

It doesn't matter that Mississippi State might have more top 25 wins, they still have 4 losses.

If I remember correctly, Ole Miss got destroyed by Alabama, it wasn't a close loss.

If wins and strength of schedule matter, why is Michigan ranked ahead of the team they lost to, but Oregon is ranked ahead of Ohio State and Baylor is ranked over Oklahoma (teams they beat)?

Oklahoma State has the better win than Michigan, Baylor has now beaten OU and BYU, but Michigan State is ranked behind Michigan.

For frick sake, a 2 loss Baylor should be ranked ahead of Michigan and Notre Dame if we're going by strength of schedule and wins.

I think Oklahoma State is the team most shafted at this point. If they had Oklahoma, Alabama, Michigan or Ohio State on their logo they'd be in the Top 6.

Their schedule has been pretty tough and they rank high in efficiency stuff. They weren't great early in the season but they've been pretty damn good since that Boise game.

The rankings are made up. There isn’t a logical, results-based explanation so I’d stop looking for one.

Wins matter more now than what happened the first three weeks of the season at this point in the game. That’s why the committee waits to rank until now. If you don’t have quality wins, you end up ranked like Oklahoma and UTSA. The committee is smart enough to realize that State has lost 3 games by a combined 8 points, though they aren’t very good losses. But it’s clear that they view Oklahoma as a 9-1 team that could easily be 7-3 or 6-4, as opposed to State who is 6-4 but they can clearly see how close they are to 9-1. That’s the difference.

You're using hypotheticals which do not matter. The results on the field matter.

I could make that same argument for Kansas State, a 7-3 team sitting outside the top 25 behind 6-4 Mississippi State, that Memphis loss is irrelevant it seems.

Except that hypotheticals are part of the “eye test”, and it’s not irrelevant at all. You can not like it all you want, but it’s not irrelevant. And yeah, results from the third game of the season don’t matter much right now. That’s a fact. Also, no, Kansas State is not a similar situation because like Oklahoma, has zero wins of quality.

Order of priority for getting in the top 4 at the end.

1. 1 loss or better SEC champ
2. 1 loss Big 10 champ
3. Georgia with SECCG loss
4. 1 loss PAC 12 champ
5. 1 loss Big 12 champ
6. undefeated Cincy
7. 1 loss Notre Dame

Not sure if Pac 12 and Big 12 don’t get reversed if it’s OkState that wins out.

Could add one loss Wake Forest as #8

Not sure the final deal but I would say Oregon due to the OSU road win couldn't be left out while OK State or Oklahoma could possibly if Georgia loses to a 1 loss Bama. I guess if Ohio State lost to both Mich State and Michigan it's a possibility.

Oregon is a 3 point dog to Utah this week. Remember Oregon lost to a 3-5 Stanford team.

Wake Forest is a 4 point dog to Clemson this week.

Baylor is a 1 point dog to KSU this week.

Michigan St is a 19 point dog to tOSU this week.

Bettors are indicating that the Committee is playing games with the rankings. Can you say “ Pac and Big 10Alliance”.

A lot of games this week that will directly or indirectly affect team's chances to make the playoff at the end.

Michigan State @ Ohio State - loser is basically done.

Oregon @ Utah - Oregon is basically done with a loss.

SMU @ Cincy - Cincy is done with a loss despite beating ND head to head.

Arkansas @ Bama - A Bama loss and Bama would be left needing some real help to get in even with a big upset over Georgia. Would a 2 loss SEC champ Bama get the nod over a 1 loss ND?

Iowa State @ Oklahoma - Oklahoma is done with a loss and possibly would hurt Oklahoma State's chances.

Oklahoma State @ Texas Tech - Oklahoma State is done with a loss and might keep Oklahoma from catching an undefeated Cincy with a loss even if they run the table these last few games.

Baylor @ Kansas State - A Baylor loss here would hurt Oklahoma State some if they beat Oklahoma as they would get a rematch with an Oklahoma that will be lower ranked than Baylor would have been in the Big 12 game.

I don't think OSU is gonna make it. There last two games are against top 10 teams and they still got the championship game too
