1999 Florida State, 2004 USC, and 2017 Alabama were the last three teams to start and finish the season at #1. In short...preseason #1 isn't the best place to be to start the season.

It’s rarely worked out for preseason #1 in the last 25 years. And that hype certainly doesn’t jive with Dabo’s “little ole Clemson” mantra.

They are literally #1 or #2 provided they don't play like absolute shite during their cupcake season and then he gets all butt hurt about no respect when they squeak by UNC.
