You can rest assured that coach Saban sent the warning some time ago. He was developing but just too inconsistent as a redshirt Sophomore. We always seem to have guys that do this in spite of better advice from the boss and NFL. Ronnie Harrison comes to mind very quickly.

If you’ve ever heard him do an interview of any sort, I think it’s safe to say he didn’t interview well with teams. Not the most articulate.

It’s time for the NCAA to change that rule and let these guys come back to school if they don’t get drafted where they think they will.

The NFL will never, ever allow that.

High second is better than low first.

First round has the fifth year option. He can get to the second contract quicker which is where the real money is earned.

Dude the 2nd round isn’t terrible. Who’s to say he would’ve improved his stock?

He had every reason to believe that this year was the year to go. It just didn’t pan out. It happens

I think he did the right thing. Get out of Alabama any way you can.

And leave NFL teams completely screwed in the draft. Basically hanging in the lurch waiting on a college player to decide after the draft whether he'll be a pro or back to college?

I have hard time believing this would ever be an issue. Practice squad players make nearly $150,000. the average guaranteed pay for a 2nd rounder is over $3.5 million.

The reason it works in the NBA is because their rosters are much shorter and 2nd Rounders aren't guaranteed a spot on the roster - imagine an NFL team not keeping a 2nd rounder.

He should have returned and worked on his game and he could be Top 5. He has the talent. Going in the 2nd cost him millions. Smitty and Najee were projected mid 2nd rounds, stayed and extra year, and improved their stock. Barmore screwed up.

Can’t really blame the guy. He was considered a first round lock until about a week ago. Not sure what happened to make his stock drop all of a sudden.

This entire post is retarded.

Being taken in the back half of the first is only good for saying you were a first round draft pick.

All first rounders have the fifth year option that can be exercised to keep them under control with their rookie contract for an additional year.

A high second is more beneficial to the player as they are under team control for four years and are able to get the second contract sooner which is when they really get paid.

The only benefit to coming back is if you are assured a top 10 selection. Even at that point the additional million is negligible because of that fifth year. This isn’t the old days when first round picks signed gigantic contracts. Everything is slotted now.
