A coach should think twice before signing a contract with an institution that has demonstrated a willingness to welch on their contracts.
A Texas public university has the most famous contract Welch example and the state just claimed sovereign immunity and washed their hands of it. Might be part of the reason Jimbo was guaranteed so much money and why A&M paid it because twice welching would have made shockwaves.

If he violated the morals clause of his contract he certainly can be dinged.

I assumed he was talking about Texas Tech and Leach but no idea if that was it.

Nobody wants a fight over mitigation. Someone else ran the numbers and found that if Kelly was paid a present value lump sum rather than receiving monthly payments, without mitigation, that figure would be $33 million; i.e., that’s the figure that paid to Kelly now, would leave him as well off as taking payments over time.
Now, what kind of salary should Kelly be able to earn if he diligently pursued all available coaching opening? If one assumes that he could find a job paying him 1/3 of his current salary, then you should be able to reduce that lump sum payment by 1/3, to $22 million, without too much of a argument from Kelly, and more would certainly be plausible.
So, all this talk about claiming a morals clause violation to beat Kelly down to $20 million lump sum payment sounds like BS to me, as that is within the range for a negotiated lump sum payment based on Kelly’s duty to mitigate.

Probably really comes down to what "for cause" means in his buyout clause.
If he was hired to coach players then maybe he was fired without cause. If his job is to win games/perform on key performance metrics (like winning games) he may have been fired for cause.
Truth is, most of the people talking about this are meatheads or hicks trying to determine what's going to happen based on contract law. It could easily be that LSU has a PIP system and he's been written up enough to create cause, just like any other state employee but with a higher salary and no union representation.

It's not big brained, super simple brained. It's contract law and attorneys. PIP was just an example.

Funny that you talk about meatheads and hicks when your description of his contract (which is publicly available) is retarded.
