Lol. Aranda isn't looking to retire, like Chavis did.

Malzahn for one.
I'm sorry, the guy who is currently 18-14 in the SEC in his career and 11-13 over his last 3?
Seriously?
quote:
His teams had trouble with teams that were physical and fast.
Beat Stanford 52-31 in 2010, a Stanford team that went 12-1 and finished #4 in the country, beating Virginia Tech by 28 in the Orange Bowl.
Beat Stanford 53-30 in 2011, a Stanford team that went 11-2 and finished #7 in the country.
Beat Wisconsin 45-38 in 2011, a Wisconsin team with Russell Wilson that went 11-3 and finished ranked #10.
Beat Kansas State 35-17 in 2012, a Kansas State team that went 11-2 and won the Big XII, finishing #11.
Their losses were
2009 : 19-8 @ #4 Boise State (14-0)
2009 : 51-42 @ Stanford (8-5)
2009 : 26-17 vs #5 Ohio State (11-2)
2010 : 22-19 vs #1 Auburn (14-0)
2011 : 40-27 vs #2 LSU (13-1)
2011 : 38-35 vs #6 USC (10-2)
2012 : 17-14 (OT) vs #6 Stanford (12-2)
So in 4 years Kelly lost 1 game to a team outside the Top 6. He lost 1 game by more than 11 points.
What a frickin bum.

Not sure where the Chip Kelly hate is coming from. He has some BCS hardware and NFL experience. He should do really well if he comes back to the college game. Just like Saban, Spurrier, Petrino, and Harbaugh. All were successful college coaches, tried the NFL, and came back and did well. Kelly will be no different

Seriously.
Chip Kelly would be the second coming of Charlie Weiss. He's overblown and over rated. He performed ok in an average conference. He had teams touted for a NC run and flopped.
Sure his teams will score 50. But the opponent will score 53.

So you would rather have Ed Orgeron at LSU than Chip Kelly?

Where would you rank him among SEC coaches? I don't think it is a stretch to say he would be in the running for the #2 spot.
Depending on how the next couple of seasons shake out, he'd be the #2 coach the day he signed his contract.

I can promise you that for the posters bashing him, they would be changing their tune if Chip Kelly was named their head coach.

Weiss was 35-27 at Notre Dame, 6-22 at a weaker program with a much weaker schedule (Kansas).
In between, he was the offensive coordinator for one of the worst offenses in Florida history (2011)
Chip Kelly was Oregon's offensive coordinator for two seasons, in which they had Dennis Dixon at QB and went 19-7.
As a head coach, he went 46-7, winning 3 conference titles and finishing in the top 5 3 times.
CLEARLY they're the same.
Kelly had more wins as a head coach in 4 seasons than Weiss did in 8.

i doubt it happens because he seems like a guy who wants to be in the NFL but i have no clue why people who are acting like it wouldnt
He's flamed out in two different NFL stops. Even if he wants to be the NFL I don't think the NFL wants him. Plus, he's just signed on to be a college analyst with ESPN. You probably don't do that if you are looking to get back into the PRO game.
A&M would probably be a good spot for him. His Oregon teams had a lot of good Texas players. However, unless Butch Jones miraculously has a huge year at Tenn., they will also be looking. Right now the path to success is clearly easier in the SEC East. UT could lose to Bama and still have a successful season. A&M can't (if their goal is a championship).

You mean with everybody outside of texas poaching all the top guys?

Yep. I never wanted Chip Kelly. I wanted Chris Peterson but he was never coming.
Chip Kelly is an arrogant coach with no reason to be. Performed ok in an average conference, talked shite and failed in the pros.
Nick Saban can be arrogant all day. He's got the skins to prove if. Kelly has zip.

There are only TWO coaches in the history of both college football and the NFL that were successful in both:
Bill Walsh
Pete Carroll
You could make an argument for Jimmy Johnson as well.

Performed ok
He went 46-7 (87%). He went to 4 BCS Bowls in 4 years at a school that had never been to 1. He finished in the Top 4 for 3 of his 4 years and #11 in the other year. He won 3 of 4 conference titles. He played for a national title.
Yea, he performed ok.
Would he make A&M a powerhouse? I don't know, I doubt it. Would he make A&M a Top 10-20 team every year that won a bunch of games and competed for the West? Absofrickinlutly.
Also, the idea that you would prefer Ed Oregeron over a guy with the resume of Chip Kelly is.......I mean whatever I guess. Congrats. That's something.

In a weak arse conference. Should have done more with what he had. Charlie Weiss 2
I should say Les Miles 2. Hard headed and arrogant. Aggies can have him.

Chip Kelly was 1-2 against the SEC while at Oregon.

He beat the champions of the Big Ten and Big XII in BCS bowl games as well.
But I'm sure he couldn't compete with Hugh Freeze, Ed Orgeron, Dan Mullen, Bret Bilema and Gus Malzahn. He'd be overwhelmed.

Would he make A&M a powerhouse? I don't know, I doubt it.

Luckily for him he'd only have to play 1-2 SEC national title contender teams yearly and the rest of the time play everybody else.

At this point, I'd settle for a coach that won't get swept by the fricking landmass.
