Not collegiate, but "my" school and my children's school played each other once. My children weren't playing, but my nephew was for "my" school.
I was conflicted. Had my children been playing, I would have sided with them.
My sister and parents came to the game and sat with us. I explained it to those sitting around us, nobody gave us any flack.

He’ll play (barring something unforeseen). I’ll start my support the day he gets on a campus.
He’s a Junior now though, I’ll just ride out the committing phase of this neutrally.

Did you ever wear those colors, or rep that school in any way?

If my kid gets a scholarship to another SEC school and goes, Id wear whatever while theyre in school and just go back after they leave unless their experience is out of this world. Then Ill support whoever took care of my kid.

Yes. I'll root for their team in their sport in that case. Blood is thicker than water after all. If they're just students there then I'd keep rooting for LSU. I would care about their grades and well being and overall college experience but I don't see why I need to support their sports if he's just a spectator.
My little brother for example goes to Bama as a student but that didn't make me start pulling for them. If he played on one of their sports teams I would probably root for that team in particular though.

That’s a subtle brag. I went to LSU for 7.5 years and barely graduated once.

My kids grew up in the Baton Rouge area. My daughter (no pics) followed and went to Auburn....during her freshman orientation I saw a dad wearing a custom Auburn shirt....It was crimson and in white letters it said "This is my Auburn Shirt" - and the "A" in Auburn was the Alabama script A...I thought that was very clever.
I have a son in HS - he has a few years until he graduates....not sure where he will end up...my guess is LSU....will I support?...sure

2 undergraduate degrees in 8 years is nothing to be bragging about

It was definitely meant to show that I REALLY liked college. Too much.

Depends what you're trying to brag about.

I'd support my kid regardless but if I raised him or her right there are a handful they wouldn't consider if UT fielded a team. Sports like Gymnastics and others that we don't field they could go wherever.

I wouldn't care. All SEC schools have at least one area academically where they are standouts. None of my kids are going to be SEC athletes, so I won't ever be in a position to have to wear Kentucky Blue, Volunteer Puke Orange, or Jorts when they're playing Georgia.

This.
My daughter went to Arkansas for 2 years and I pulled for them somewhat. Until she started talking shite.
She's now transferred closer to home for nursing school so I don't follow Arkansas that much now except when they play A+M and those porkers keep letting me down.

Congratulations to your son! To get an offer to any school willing to pay his tuition is an accomplishment and a blessing!!

Kid can go to whatever school she wants to. At the end of the day, sports have no impact on my day to day life.
I didn’t go to an SEC school for undergraduate and finished in 4 years with zero debt. Had a free ride for education. Had I gone to LSU would have had to pay about 5k a semester

When it comes to where my kid decides to go to school, sports isn't in the equation.
Costs, scholarships and academic majors come in to play.
My daughter has auburn as a finalist. Their football pedigree is delusional, but I have no problem if she goes there. Still will be a Bama season tickets holder and will never wear anything orange. Auburn is a decent school academically and she couldn't care less about sports.
