He sought active NFL players under contract to sue the NCAA.

That undermines the NCAA and yes there are by laws for that.

Cite them specifically. If it’s such a slam dunk case, this should be an easy lay up for you.

The word sarcasm comes from the ancient Greek word sarkázein, which means "to tear flesh" my dear creative polymath.

One, it's not that serious, dipshit.

Two, what rule did Lane break SPECIFICALLY.

Bylaw 13 — impermissible recruiting contact / transfer tampering.

If a player isn't in the transfer portal, a coach cannot contact them. This is exactly what Kiffin is accused of doing here in the CBS article.

Also, Bylaw 11.1.1.1 requires head coaches to promote an atmosphere of compliance and monitor the activities of those who report to them. By going after NFL players, Kiffin almost certainty failed in his responsibility here.

The NCAA will never again issue a death penalty, even if they could. That entity is largely powerless by comparison when it issued the death penalty to SMU.

At the SEC special meeting held to vote on the issue, the vote was 15-1 to not allow NFL players into the SEC. One president did not vote for it, guess which one????

It’s pretty hard not to see the writing on the wall with Lane.

The NCAA bylaws have nothing to do with NFL players not enrolled in a school with eligibility left. All of those guys TECHNICALLY have eligibility according the the judge's ruling. A Sunbelt or MAC school can pick those guys up today if they want.

eta: 11.1.1.1 doesn't apply. Going after NFL players isn't against any rules. How is this so hard to understand?

Then why did the court have to make a special (NCAA) transfer portal window that applied to just one player?

Did LSU contact that player before this special transfer portal opened? You'd better hope not.....

You're missing the point. The portal is specifically for current college football players. That wording matters. You can't go scorched earth on someone for doing something that, at the time, there were no rules prohibiting.

For the record, I am 100% against what Kiffin tried to do, and I'm glad the conferences are stepping in to ban this kind of thing. But this situation also exposed just how ill-equipped the NCAA was/is to deal with the realities of college football today. The rules and enforcement are fricking shite show.
