Is this his last game on CBS? Though senile the past few years, have always thought he had a great voice for calling games. Esp the masters.

Maybe thats why they did the tribute to him. To soften the blow before they let him go.

This read is terrible. "Generally beloved"? The guy is a caricature parading as an announcer and he's terrible.

If this is his last year calling football games, I'll miss him when LSU & Bama play.

If Verne leaves, we will lose a truly great clown.

Vern was the man in the 80's and 90's while calling NFL games. He's just gotten old. In his prime he was one of the best.

So who replaces him if he retires? Does CBS promote some no-name from within or do they poach someone from ESPN like Rece Davis or Brad Nessler?

Like hearing that Riley Cooper is Tim Tebow's roommate for the 400th time?

If I was going to the game I would bring a cut out of Happy Gilmore with bubble text saying "thanks for the memories Verne!!"

Feel free to take my idea of you are going.

Yeah, everytime someone said they wanted Verne to retire, I'd remind them that it could be worse...a lot worse...if Brando took over. The SEC dodged a big one there.
