Dupree had it all. He was so fun to watch. Sucks he got injured. Billy Sims was one of my favorite rb's to watch as well. Smooth as butter. Then came Marcus. Oklahoma has had some of the greatest rb's in college football history.

A college athlete wasn’t saying that then either.
And just think... it was like the year after he finished at Texas that the NCAA took away the $15 dollar a month "laundry" stipend.
So in a way Earl was lucky.... How would he have ever survived at Texas without that 15 dollars? (wink)...

Barry- at the top of the second tier
Derrick- middle of the third tier

I think half the kids playing today would wet their pants if they had to go against him.
Why’s that?

Dupree’s problems were his attitude and the people around him, especially Ken Fairley.

Everyone but the athletes made lots of money. It amounted to a slave trade, but no one wanted to discuss the horse on the dining room table.

I was in a club with a guy who had gone to the University of Illinois. He told me there was a bank across the street from the University and upon entering there were two desks. His wife was at one and Dick Butkus wife was at the other. Their jobs served as greeters and would direct customers to the loan officers or tellers, etc.
His wife was paid $50 a week and Butkis wife was paid $250 a week.

Ran into Earl Campbell a couple of times years ago when I lived in Victoria. Heck of a nice guy and would talk your ear off. He was actually grocery shopping both times. Earl and Bum Phillips owned ranches nearby. We would run into Bum Phillips every now and then too.

My oldest sister was in speech classes with Earl at Texas and would tutor him part time. His speaking abilities back then was nothing like his speaking in that link. Go look up his Heisman speech to see the difference.
In late 80s I went into 7-11 to buy some beer. He was just sitting on the curb in jeans and a tee shirt doing nothing. I sat and talked with him for a while and gave him a lift to his mechanic.
Sports Illustrated ( I think) did a great story on him, his son's and their health issues along with his health issues and addiction to pain killers.

Wrong but everyone has their own opinions even if they are wrong.
