Can you guess which one of these was ruled a catch and which one was not?

No offense.

It is 2026.

Screenshots are for losers when bitching about refereeing.

I wouldnt trust a screenshot ever.

They do a pretty good job at capturing exact moments when the ball hits the ground

Your entire post reeks of bitching because you know that UGA wr did not catch the ball but you don't want to admit it.

Fair enough.
But they also catch a point in time when irrelevant to the playcall.

Again.
It is 2026.
You should be able to do better than a screenshot.
And if you can't, then you are lazy and/or hiding something.

Did they call the one with the Florida player a catch on the field? If they did, then without seeing any other angle, I would say that the catch should have stood. If it wasn't called a catch, I'd probably call no catch. You can kind of see the grass become disturbed when the ball makes contact indicating that it probably hit the ground.

The Georgia player obviously didn't catch that ball, no matter what was called on the field.

If you haven't figured it out yet, the home team generally gets the benefit of the call on the field that generally requires compelling evidence to be overturned. Generally, the visiting team gets the shaft of the call on the field that requires compelling evidence to be overturned. If that makes sense. Obviously the Georgia receiver did not catch the ball and it looks like the Florida receiver did catch the ball.

Well that game was at a neutral site, and it seems like you forgot what happened 3 weeks ago in Tuscaloosa.

The ground can't cause a fumble, however, it can cause an incomplete pass, I'm not so sure this point in time is irrelevant to the play. To be fair, I have not seen the whole play, but unless he rolled on the ground with the ball 2-3 times after completely securing the ball, this should probably be ruled an incomplete catch.

So should refs not be able to pause a replay when review plays in the booth? A paused replay is the same as a screenshot, is it not?

Not, it is not.

A paused video has context of what happened before and after. I screenshot posted on a message board thread has no visible past or future context. Pretty simple stuff.

Not just in that game unfortunately. Florida never gets any love from officials SMH. Some interesting stats on this have been showing up this year on twitter and reddit that are eye opening.

This gif was posted in this thread by someone else. That screenshot was not at an irrelevant point during that play sequence..

I would say UGA was not a catch, and Florida was probably not a catch.

The ball looks like it may have hit the ground between the Florida player's arms before he pulled them together under the ball, but I can't tell for sure. I could see it staying as called either way if there were no other angles.

single frame image is an automatic downvote from me.

It's unlikely the ball on the left was complete, but it's impossible to tell with a single frame image. Maybe he caught it that way. I doubt it, but the information isn't available.

And maybe the other guy scooped it. Can't tell with a single frame image.

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just saying your argument is bad.

In both instances, his intent was to catch the ball, so based on a week 1 NFL ruling, both should have been completions.
