Here is my take on your rant.

1. Jefferson Pilot was the way you watched most games if you didn't see it in person. That made actually seeing the game so much more special.

2. 30-40 years ago...no Jumbotron...so, if there was a big play, the crowd got even more amped up...now, they stop to watch the replay.

3. Watch Eric Zeier footage and tell me how bad the quarterbacks were...or Alvin Harper and tell me how the receivers are fundamentally better because they play 7-on-7 now. 7-on-7 builds 2 things...bad fundamentals (from poor coaching) and ego. The kids get year-round reinforcement that their 5hit doesn't stink...and they carry that attitude on to college.

4. There was no transfer portal...so kids knew they had to make the biggest impact where they were, because there was no other option.

Everything in our society over the last 3 decades has focused on building the ego of the individual to focus on the self over the group.

Games didn't run an extra hour to an hour and a half just for commercials. If you don't understand the thrill of listening to a game on the radio, sitting on your porch, grilling and drinking... don't know what to tell you man.

Even better having the game on while your fishing or shooting dove. I have listened to UGA games on the radio while I wired houses on the side on weekends. I don't remember there being a pre-game or post game show...if there was I wasn't aware. There was the coaches show on Sunday morning and then a coaches call in show on Tuesday usually. That was it. The game was 3 hours at most, it was mostly on the radio in the background while something else was going on, a half hour on Sunday for the coaches show and an hour on Tuesday if you remembered to catch the call in show. 5 hours a week at most. That is mostly pre game shows on Saturdays today.

Nothing “ cooler” than partying on those RR tracks outside Sanford Stadium late 70’s and 80’s.
No one will compare to Keith Jackson.

Can’t speak for the SEC but in the early 90s…

You could get UT tickets for $10 at the grocery store.

The bands played a lot more at games, instead of a mega video board blasting Taco Bell ads.

When you made a bowl game all the players played even if it was the weed eater bowl. And the matchups were just better.

New Year’s Day was glorious with multiple games often mattering for the NC.

There was some semblance of the concept of ‘student athlete’ instead of hired semi pros who are at their 3rd school in 4 years.

Your mother was hotter back then and made the best game snacks and sandwiches.

Well there you go dumbass. AIDS is still here. It didn’t start in the 90s. And the rest of this is pure utter bullshite you punk. Pedos like your generation hide behind the anonymity of computers now. When we grew up if I wanted to say or do some shite that I knew
Would piss people off I had to say it to their face. It’s amazing when you have to face the consequences of your actions how many people actually put thought and care into the things you say and do. Football was better because not just any pussy could play.

Why is music better today than in 1994?

While I love Creed I don't know how the 90s music industry allowed Scott Stapp's voice to become an international sensation

The world was cooler back then.

Less distractions - the game was more organic to the viewer.

w/ that, you could actually believe the players loved the school like you do

The problem with college football is fans want two things:

1. They want the absolute best players in the world to play for their team. Doesn't matter if they are from California, Alaska, or Australia. Fans will take a great player from Los Angeles who has never heard of Bear Bryant or Bo Jackson over a good player from in state.

2. They want players to have the loyalty of Captain America.

It’s hard to have both of these things. You sign mercenaries and then get your feelings hurt when you find out they don't really love you or your school as much as you want them to.

People are only as loyal as their options. The college football heroes of 30 years ago would have taken advantage of NIL and the portal too if those options had been available to them.

But those options were not available then, so the players that liked the school came to play, not for the highest bid. The question was why it was cooler 30 years ago.

I have nothing against NIL if it were NIL. IT's not, it's pay for play or to sign. That's where the mercenary aspect comes from. And I personally do not want the CA player who comes b/c it was the highest bid. Honestly. i think it is a bad business model and why i wanted A&M's class to fail.

Pretty much this. Also, hate to burst some bubbles, but 90-whatever percent of scholarship players 30 years ago grew up dreaming of playing in the NFL and their ultimate goal was to play in the NFL and just viewed college as a pitstop. The same as today.

having NFL aspirations and loyalty/affinity with the school you sign with are not mutually exclusive. 4 yrs of eligibility is by definition a pit stop if you go on to play pro. You see a lot of those older guys still repping their alma mater. With post-NIL, time will tell.
